Pretty tilted this evening in pursuit of something that should be fun and memorable this summer...

I'm finding it so difficult to find a reasonably priced summer holiday to the Med for myself and 2 little lads.

My Modus Operandi so far has been:

1. Find hotel/flights on icelolly.

2. CCP name of hotel into google and check reviews (usually tripadvisor/hotelwatchdog)

I then spend ten minutes glaring in horror at computer screen reading reviews and scanning horrifying images of said hotel or holidaymakers bedbug bites etc

I wouldn't mind so much, but this is even happening when looking at the the 4 and 5* resorts grrrr

So....

1. Do only bored agitated people write reviews??? (should I be taking these with a pinch of salt?)

2. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the best possible deal?

I'm looking to go for a week at the start of August and trying to keep the cost under £800....

...but the way its going a week with the kids in Vegas for £1800 looks more tempting with each bedbug pic I see...

How about taking the car and going camping in France, my bro's love that with their kids and is not too expensive once you have sorted the ferry  Smiley

Funnily enough I am giving it consideration - any recommended resorts with waterparks nearby?

Hmm not really, I've done it twice and just winged it both times with my missus at the time. Wasn't really looking for that sort of stuff. Did the south coast once and Brittany another time, I'll be fucked if I remember exactly where I went  Cheesy

Camping will be good bonding with the kids though  Smiley

As a 21 year old i tend to look at hotel reviews and think if it says not for familys and kids then its good for me! so on your logic go the other way!

A lot of trip advisor stuff as you said is by people who have had a bad time look at a massiv 5* hotel if they have say 100 rooms there going to get 2000> a year staying now if over 3 years they have had 10 bad reviews! doesent seem to bad to me! always people that will moan!

After we had booked a holiday to alcudia Majorca a couple of years ago we herd terrible thing about our hotel...
So I looked into it via the usual trip adviser etc...I was horrified and wanted to cancel
So many things people where complaining about
Que for an hour to get food,
Terrible food,Cold food,
Dirty rooms ,pool,communal areas,
Etc.

All bullshit !
These people must of been expecting 5* luxury from a 3* hotel everything was fine and very exaggerated

If you think about it, people are more willing to complain on trip advisor than they are @rsed about going on there and saying 'beautiful sunshine, amazing food, awesome room' etc so people hardly post positive reviews. It can be  a useful tool to get the general opinion though - but the best advice really is going to come from close friends and family.

Also on holiday you can have a perfect time for 99% of it then 1 thing winds you up, and you're more willing to remember that one thing so it gets reported on T.A
