Incred story and balance. I bet there is a reputation now among a few young people of the town for "that guy with the moustache, who lets you think you have won, because he's coming back to get you." Watch out for him, he often rides a bike, and seems to really not like cars.

I still think that the right mantra is general is to let them think they have won, continue their pathetic lives, and be safe in yours, as of course you do.

As you say, the rules of fighting have changed to be more dangerous, and for this reason more people will over time lean towards this stance. This is even more the case when the kind of person who implies they might be carrying a weapon tells you to give them your wallet. Is it the right thing in this case to let them "win?" Of course it is. However, over time it brings a problem, and because it remains the right thing for each individual to do, it's one that society might need alot more help with.

As an aside, quite funny and warming to see how our thread started compared to the 2p2 thread, expressed concern and support for Sam compared to the 2p2 thread, and where it has randomly developed now, compared to the 2p2 thread.

Had I been right to go back? No. Of course not. It was really foolish and completely out of character.

Still. maybe those youths will think twice the next time. So perhaps it's a good thing that normally meek people act out of character occasionally.

I played a lot of rugby, and whilst not a fighter, or being particularly handy myself, the only real fight situations i got into were because i saw someone do something that was a) sneaky b) on someone a lot smaller than them.

We were 70-0 up on some C team one of the large private schools joke trolled us with, and the game was about to be abandoned any second. One of my mates gets tackled in the corner and as play moves on, i see a guy lash out at his leg, at this point everyone is just waiting for the whistle, and it was really really dirty. I picked him up and I'm sure i saw him shit a break after my tirade of swear words. A similar situation, 20-0ish down to a good school and we're in the last 5 minutes. Our first team had some 16 year old's who hadn't really matured yet. Our skinny hooker at 5"8 and 10 stone, got punched by a guy who was 13 stone and 6"3. I think this is the only incident where i through a clear punch, although unlike some of my teammates, fights weren't a source of pride.

Very admirable to go back and stand up to them, whilst you may not be proud, on rare occasion it just has to be done.

the instinct to fight is one of the most prevalent and primal of all human instincts, everyone loses their temper once in a while its completely stnd.

However, if you wanna be someone different in the world, then you there are skills you need and composure and temperament is one of the biggest imo. most stnd people get angry and lash, but the cleverer people in the world can refrain and handle situations better.

Someone spits in your girlfriends face and you take a beating of a few guys because it's better than feeling "mugged off" is totally stupid, the best play in this spot is 100% to grab your girlfriend, wipe the spit from her face make sure she is ok and gtfo of the area pronto, as natural as it is the feeling of "I need to prove to the world/these worthless scumbags who spit in peoples faces that I'm no mug" is the sort of negative freeroll my life can live without tyvm, like stu says who knows if this time will be that 0.01% of times that something terrible happens.

Im going to go to bed and wake up safe in the knowledge that im 45x the person that c*nt is because I dont go around spitting in people's faces, his life is likely to be terrible and mine is actually pretty awesome so I think I'll just keep my skin/bones/organs in one piece and leave him to his horrific behavior.

You can all call me a coward but im 475 times less likely to die in a bar fight than most people.

I just got in actually and nearly got into a fight tonight by myself at PH, I smoothed the situation down and 3 minutes later the guy was helping me look for my shoes, which I somehow lost.

Wow, thread gets ten pages coz the guy has got a few scratches after getting into a ruck when drunk. If six guys really only managed to do that to him then I can only assume Grumpy was holding the coats.

Sticking it all over social media sites is just daft too.

You just saying this is the correct thing to do doesn't in fact make it so, of course nobody wants to get hurt but if someone spits in your gf's face and all you do is wipe her face and take her away I would be utterly ashamed with myself and feel like the biggest coward imaginable. You are not trying to prove something to the world, you are simply doing what is right in that particular situation. No matter how many there are/who it is, you usher your partner to the side or say wait outside or whatever, head down and go in blazing. Do you take the same line if it is one person/a kid/another woman who spat? You genuinely think this is how you would react in this situation?

There is a chance your taxi/aeroplane could crash, your next hooker could pull a knife from her purse, we can't live our entire lives fearing the worst hoping to never be on the receiving end of any sort of pain.

I have, and will again, walk away in those spots.

you're right we never know what will happen our plane might crash, taxi might explode etc, however if you never take a taxi or fly they will never happen.

Sometimes flying or taking a taxi is the only option.

imo if you ever have a spot where there is only one option, then you have made a mistake.
