LOOKING FOR SPONSORSHIP
«

I was read this months Poker europa when i came across this, is it just to get you to sign on a site or do you think its for real? Most players who have the benefit of a sponsor to pay their way have had to prove themselves by winning events on the tough tournament circuit. But now a new site which offers to find sponsorship for relatively unknown players has been launched. How to earn a deal can be found on .
www.pokershowoff.com
. Of course there are some strings attached. Players looking for backing have to undergo a month long evaluation process-and of course this involves playing online. In addition the organisers are seeking a piece of the action from those who eventually get a sponsorship deal. Even so, for thoselooking for a little bit of financial aid from somewhere its worth a look.

I looked up Q&A, on the site that said, the first month that you play you have to pay for any tournments you enter, after that if you are choosen they pay for them, if you win you recieve 75% of them, but its only for games on the net. I registerd for it and they sent me an email telling to open account with parcific poker, and to send them my user name, then i have to play 3 tourments, and send them the results of where i finished. im not going to do it, but i just wonder if it was for real.

Bear in mind aswell that they are only offering sponsorship for online play. I believe this is phrased somewhat ambigously on the website.
From the sites FAQ,
"Do you sponsor players for live events?
We do not send any new players to live events, but players who have played successful for us during a longer period, might get the opportunity to play live. "
So if anyone thinks that winning this league thing they're offering will get them a sponsor for the European circuit can think again.
Being a sponsored online player? No thankyou, I won't trade off 25% of my winnings for the privilege of playing with someone elses bankroll.
It's not really sponsorship anyway, it's backing they're offering. Anyone worth backing online backs themselves IMHO.
Live sponsorship is different, tournaments are more expensive to enter and expenses run you down etc. You can keep what you win as the sponsor is paying for the exposure.
It smells of dodgy to me too, I only trust online sites with an established reputation, too many people have been burned by e-scams. Is it to play on their website or are they an affiliate for someone else? If the former I'd definately advise to steer clear.

Let me guess - they tell you to sign up to pacific through their affiliate link?
They'll then get paid for that...

I think Ruthless was quoting from the web page at that point, Eric.

Nice business idea.
Money from Pacific Poker for the X thousand of people you send their way who are *definitely* spending enough to get in to three tournaments. The criteria for sponsorship are so fuzzy that they could simply sit and rake in the kick-backs from Pacific Poker without sponsoring anyone nor raising any suspicions. Surely if they are talking about online tournaments *only* then very good players...the sort one would think about sponsoring...would have earnt the entrance fees themselves.
