Surely Redgrave would be above Beckham in the pecking order, he's an Olympian to start with. Would have thought we'd go for our greatest ever Olympian personally.
Traditionally it's an Olympian anyway
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_who_have_lit_the_Olympic_Cauldron
That said, he wouldn't be the first non-Olympian to do it.
True, but England is the home of football.
Becks doing a Diana Ross wouldn't surprise me.
The was a bit of sour grapes from Daley Thompson the other day who felt he and Regrave would be the ones in the running, he was saying that Rowing wasn't a proper sport etc., that attitude should rule him out on it's own. He was then used last night to light the cauldron at Alexandra Palace last night making me think Redgrave has bagged this. However it is accepted now that Beckham will have a role to play tomorrow but he is not saying what it is. Coin toss perhaps.

I think Becks in the past few months has come out and said that he won't be the person to actual light the Flame that it deserves to be an Olympian. I can't imagine the selection committee giving it to Becks and I can't imagine Becks doing it even if asked as it would be a PR nightmare.

If there is a coin toss, I hope they do it on stage

I went to the British Swimming Championships at the Aquatics centre, for that I had front row and in line with the start/finish - but it did mean that I got to see just how far back the cheapest seats were.
I'm glad I had that because I have seen Olympic swimming tickets come up for sale, but they're not worth me looking at because I know that any seats that are good enough to be worthwhile buying are going to be too expensive for me to be able to afford.

Sharapova seems huge at 4/1+ to beat Serena?
Anyone put me off this?

Pretty difficult for anyone to appear huge next to Serena.

Ask Mere, Keith, he is very well up on Ladies Tennis.
It is a big price but probably reflects the reality.
Serena has looked awesome and has not dropped more than 3 games in any set yet.
She has also beaten Sharapova the last 7 times they have played including 6-1 6-3 both of the last two times.
If there is any wind, Sharapova's serve is prone to go AWOL. Serena's game is much more robust.

Yup, not sure Tennis in the Olympics has the cachet of Track and field double gold though
