Barcelona Hotels

Just looking to go and play some side events at the EPT plus sats into the main obv and looking at hotels.
Any recommendations?
Looking at booking 5 nights from the 15th and the cheapest on hotels.com is a Holiday Inn Express - apparently 0.3 miles away from the casino. Anyone been there before? Don't mind paying a tad extra if theres somewhere on the casino doorstep.
Anything else that I should know about Barcelona? Is the area safe to walk near/around the casino or is it the muggers paradise that I've heard?

Yeah most there are full and plus they seem to be a tad more expensive than the budget places I'm looking at :p
The Ibis Barcelona Pza Glories 22 is 429£ for 5 nights. Looks pretty standard.

Ryan,
There are Hotels nearer - the Casino actually adjoins the Arts Hotel (VERY expensive) & Princess is close, but very pricey, too. If you have a HIE within a third of a mile, book it, you won't do better.
Under no circumstances would I advise staying in Les Ramblas. The "hotels" there, (mostly B & B or simply a room & a bed) are dirt cheap, but Les Ramblas is not a place you should be returning to at 3 & 4 in the morning on foot.
Enjoy Barca, it's a wonderful city.

Arts IF you can afford it.
H10, about a mile away ...if not.
Keep your wits about you both inside and outside casino and DON`T go flashing any wins around at the casino bars etc.
Take a taxi home late at night or walk back with a couple of friends.
Most muggers operate in gangs of 2-4 and generaly target single individuals or couples so always beware.
Barcelona is safe if you stay vigilant... but you need to take care.

I know some good hotels, look at Borne, or for real life Gracia (think the festival is on around the EPT so be prepared for a mind blowing few nights of a real festival, nothing like you'll experience in the UK..)
Thinking about setting up a security service, with advice and well, seriously though, just keep vigilant, don't carry huge sums of cash, or anything more and you'll be fine. I've been here on and off for 2 years, and the only problem i've encountered in on the beach at 5am on a monday morning, the dancing ronaldos did not get a penny from me!
Anyone going want a quick check on the local area before they book feel free to post here, I know most areas well, and am back there at the weekend.
Advice about not staying in Ramblas should be followed 100%, Raval is similar, although there are proper hotels there. I also rent out a couple of apartments, so there may be a room or two there, usually around 250 euros for the week, in Sant Antoni.

When i've been before we stayed on nou de la rambla in some really nice apartments. It was opposite a really nice bar/restaurant that was dirt cheap called Guru. It's right at the la rambla end.

Decided to go for the Hotel Colon as it was on the EPT approved list. Was only a few quid more expensive than the Holiday Inn/Ibis and has a load of good reviews.
See some of you there!
