I received an e-Mail yesterday from PokerStars, asking me to provide scanned documents to verify my identity. The e-Mail looks to be genuine.

It requests a copy of my Driving Licence or Passport, & a Utility Bill less than 3 months old.

It states that the information is required as part of its legal & licence requirements, & tellingly adds "all cashouts will be subject to this requirement". (In other words, if I don't provide it, I cannot withdraw). I do have a small sum on deposit there.

Have their "legal & licence" requirements changed?

I've had the account since early 2002, I played on it a great deal in 2002/3/4, but rarely since. It has been near-dormant for some years now, & have never been previously asked for this info. I do have a small sum on deposit there.

Has anyone else been asked to provide this information?

Easiest thing is to log in to stars, go to help then contact/upload documents and then ask the question directly to them.

Can't go wrong then. Also you can upload your documents directly to the client so nothing dodgy.

This, but depending on your software you can usually right click or similar the sender and find out who exactly sent the email.

Ask a question direct at stars, you'd be surprised how good scams can be these days.

By co-incidence I got one of these as well.  As suggested above, you can send it directly through the stars software.

Umm, sadly, no I would not, especially when it involves e-Mails.......

Hence the question "has anyone else received such an e-Mail from 'Stars recently?"

That was the reply I was seeking, thanks.

Just struck me as odd, I've had the account 10 years!

Tony - not recently, however just confirm directly if not sure and upload directly via the client, that way you know it goes direct to them. I am guessing of you have made real money transfers recently that is why there asking; it's led by money laundering regs and the time I got asked first was with increased transfer activity.

Thanks Shaun.

No, I've not made any money transfers via 'Stars of late, not that I can recall. And I am over 18.

I also just received confirmation that the docs were acceptable.

I think they must be doing a clean-up sweep.  They asked me for docs a couple of years ago and I sent them the copies I had on my pc, but one of them was out of date and I never got round to rescanning.

You know they send scam emails to more than one person right?
