It is impossible to win the Premier League without tons of cash. To get that you either need an Arab or Russian sugar daddy, or Champions League football every year (prize money, TV money, global exposure).

As Arsenal are being run like an actual business, rather than a plaything, they need the money coming in. Their shiny stadium charging London prices for football will give them a good stream of money coming in, but it's not paid for yet, so that's going to drain resources until it's paid off. So they need CL football - without it they will not be able to get top players, or even hold on to the good ones they do have.

Arsenal are playing the long game, and ensuring the survival of the club (Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd could all go bust within a week if their sugar daddies left/Glazers house of cards falls down). That won't help them win the league any time soon. Fans need to realise that the top three are playing in a different league to the other 17 clubs, and concentrate on 4th (which Arsenal should still get, if they play to potential)

Arsenal have a pair of billionaires in charge.

Just turns out they are tight arses.

I remember our fans saying they would rather win games in division one than carry on losing games in the premiership.  Now I think they'd be happy just winning games anywhere.

I'd love to win the league cup right now.

As a QPR fan I'd settle for winning just one game in anything.

Spurs fan so FA Cup obv.

Champions' League qualification is the big one this season. We were 4th last season, he notes carefully.

We would need that to build a Prem-challenging team, else we risk losing what we have as well.

Also Wenger has to say CL qualification as it's the only thing he can guarantee being competitive in.

I remember a gooner ringing 606 one night early in the 2010/11 season in response to a spurs fan saying we would win the cup because the year ended in a 1. He pointed out that every time we had won, the year had also STARTED in a 1, so we wouldn't win anything for another 8,000 years.

Even I found that funny

For some teams I'd agree with that.  But I'd rather see Liverpool win the league ahead of winning the CL again (I'd take either to be honest, but the 'goal' has to be the league, even though it's arguably easier to win the CL?). I might not be saying that if we hadn't won it in 2005.

PL>CL for me but CL would be a nice consolation prize.
