IMHO deepstack nut structure is 40min levels, 30k stack starting at 50/100. antes coming in a 100/200 nice and early. include the 250/500 l, 500/1k levels and the 2500/5000 level etc though as when those get missed off it's a noticeable difference.
40min clock with more levels>>> 1hr clock skipping levels.

Not sure if the tournament could be squeezed in over two days (with the split Day 1s as well, obviously) with hour-long levels.
An additional 20 minutes a level = an additional 3 hours every 9 levels.
There is an argument for the £300 v £500, but not sure there's an adequate argument for increasing the levels from 40 minutes to an hour. Still plenty of play with a 40-minute clock for a monthly deepstack event. Not sure that there's a clamour for the monthly deepstack at DTD to have the hour levels and the issues of trying to shoe-horn it into a two-day event. Might be wrong though.
Yep I fully understand the difficulty of 1 hour levels over 2 days. I doubt it is possible so it would need to be 3 days. The main point I'm making or trying to make is that if the structure is right then the players will turn up in large numbers even over 3 days, or 4 days if you have 2 day ones.
The numbers seem to be dropping at DTD over recent months so players are staying away for whatever reason yet the UKIPT's and GPS events are thriving. My guess is it has a lot to do with not quite getting the best structure for the buy in or visa verse. I believe something needs to change but I respect the fact that there are many players who like the 40/60 clock for £560. It just seems there are more that don't.

Very much this.
Hour clock would be an absolute disaster. Why would anybody want to play a £560 comp that lasted 3 days?!?!

I think the problem with the numbers is for several reasons. Firstly, I think there's been too much chopping and changing - for example last month didn't have the usual mega-sats because of the CPP. I'm sure that affected numbers quite dramatically.
Also, how many GPS events are there a year? The £500 is on every month, are the GPS events? (I've just checked, they've had 5 live events and there's a Grand Final to come - similar to the UKIPT at DTD or a Monte Carlo I guess - so that's half the number of events to the DTD monthly deepstack - do these events get double the fields of the DTD deepstack?). The GPS events are also 'on the road' so will attract local players happy to play one big event a year, as well as those who travel from further afield.
You mentioned the deepstack being a £300 instead of a £500 - and I can definitely see the positives from the smaller buy-in, and there are some negatives too. I don't think the £150 could be held on the same weekend as the £300 as the buy-ins are too close. I don't think running the £150 on the same weekend as the £500 or £300 is a great idea full-stop, but I guess DTD know more about the figures and what works than an outsider who's basically guessing at what'd work.
Not sure how you come to your conclusion that more players would favour a 1-hour clock and a three-day comp over a 40-minute clock and a 2-day event? Wasn't the 3-day event tried as the format for the DTD deepstack?

You make many valid points and yes we are guessing at why the numbers are down.
I believe that when DTD has tried the 1 hour clock over 3 days it has been well attended except for once. If a 3 day monthly event is not viable and it may well not be for various reasons (work or family commitments) then I think lowering the buy in would bring more players back to the club. £560 soon eats away at the majority of players bank rolls so I believe many players are waiting for the UKIPTs and GPS and to a lesser extent GUKPT's that have better structures.
The UK Poker scene is constantly changing so It will probably look different this time next year but I believe 1 hour clock deepstacks will remain popular and well attended.
The DTD monthly was an important fixture in my diary but at £560 for a 2 day monthly event event it is just a little too pricey when there are bi monthly UKIPT's and GPS's and other monthlies around.
And I say all this as a profitable tournament player so I wonder how the players who are not profitable manage it. (that's not a brag by the way as I am not as nearly as profitable as I would like to be).

You've touched on possibly the most important issue - players have a limited bankroll/disposable income. When the DTD deepstacks first started there really weren't any other comparable comps in that price-range. But now the market has caught up and there is a choice for players. But they can't play them all, and therefore the player pool is spread more thinly.
This, and the fact that people are feeling the squeeze of the current economic climate. Maybe some of those who would have played a few £500 comps a month previously have now decided to cut back a little and instead will play just the one.
Not sure the solution is going to 1-hour levels though. Don't think it'd be that much more attractive (or more attractive at all) to that many players to overcome these other issues that I think are far bigger factors.

I accept that 1 hour levels may not be viable so maybe reducing the monthly to a more affordable and less painfull when on a dry run level would be best (for me anyway).
I like Alex's suggestion re more levels and bringing in the antes sooner. A 45 min clock would be a good compromise and could be done if the tournament started earlier ie 1pm. I think most players live within two or three hours of DTD so starting earlier shouldn't be a problem. It's been said before but cutting the breaks down to 10 minutes from 20 would help when squeezing in the extra levels.
