Hey all, heading to Vegas 5 weeks today and looking for some tips on shows, restaurants, poker comps etc...

I have a $500 a day budget. (Ive got £1.5k of English i still need to exchange if anyone has got dollars at spot?)

Airport

Tips about taxis to our hotel(harrahs) please. What do you ask for so they don't take the piss and roughly how much is it? (You gotta watch those taxi drivers Wink )

Hotel

Its my mothers 60th whilst there so any tips on blagging an upgrade to our rooms?

Shows

What shows to see? So far I've been told about the Legends show which is in our hotel. Any other must See's?

Grand Canyon. Worth the hit to do it via a chopper? Wheres best to book?

Food

Nice not too expensive restaurant's to take my mum on her birthday. Nothing fancy just a good steak place or something along those lines.

Poker

Wheres best to play? Decent deepstack tourneys around the $100 mark. Cheap cash games.

Any other tips?

Thanks in advance Smiley

Airport
Jump in and say Harrah's, pretty sure you can tell them which route you want but Im not sure which your meant to ask for.
There is a little shuttle bus on thats cheaper takes a dozen people though and drops them where ever they are staying.

Shows
Not sure what your looking for, but guessing your Mum may quite enjoy Frank Marino, can get table tickets pretty cheap

Food
Striphouse in PH probs not worth the money imo, think thats the only steakhouse Ive been too.
Careful with the buffets as a lot arent great. Bellagio breakfast has to be done though.

Poker
PH was good for fun cash games, Aria nice also. Bellagio miserable. Venetian a lot more games but a bit more serious than PH etc
Aria tourneys are meant to be good.

Enjoy Girgles!

Airport
Tell them "no tunnel" or "take the surface streets" (they should go down Koval and into the back of Harrahs)  If they take you on I-15, you got long-hauled, get out, get your bags, then offer the driver the choice between doing one or having a convo with the local cab authority.

Shows
Try and see something like Love @ Mirage (if your mum likes Beatles) Mystere @ TI or Absinthe @ Caesars.  appeals to all age groups and discounted tickets are available, proper shows, don't baulk at the cost.

Food
Buffets/cafes are fine for most of it.  The better hotels unsurprisingly have better options than the 3* ones, so it is worth the extra short walk and $3 to swerve Harrahs buffet and go to the Wynn buffet (or cafe, or Cosmo/Caesars/Bellagio)  For a nicer steakhouse, check out the hotel websites, read the menus, do a virtual tour of it and pick one you think she'd like.  A nice one is going to be $100pp without wine.  SW, STK, Prime, StripHouse, StripSteak, Carnevino, Cut, Delmonico is enough reading to keep you busy for a while.

Poker
Cheap cash games are everywhere, $1/$2 is the general entry level game.  For tournys you want the noon Venetian or 1pm Aria for the better structures.  If that is too rich, then they do cheaper 7pm-type tournies, but obv the structure isn't as good.  But hey, it's Vegas, who wants to sit nursing a 500BB stack all night in a $30 comp...

Going in 4 weeks for 12 nights.

Poker

Aria $125 Tourney 1 pm and 7pm daily gets good fields and reasonable structure.

Venetian 7pm tourny $200 I think, smaller fields than Aria.

Orleans $125 NLHE 7pm Friday is good too, faster than Aria but plenty of value.

Cash games I normally play Venetian, Aria  1/2 NLHE plenty of tables most nights so if you get a rubbish tight one you can get a table move easily.

There is 50/1 next door at bills.

Also every afternoon at bills there  is a free Elvis show in the bar which your mum might like. Good way to kill an hour.

It also has cheap decent breakfasts and informal food at the Victorian lounge there or whatever it's called.

I'm happy enough to take the interstate when I land and pay the extra not to be sat in the cab any longer than  I have to....

Not really much you can upgrade too in Harrahs, I got an executive suite there when I had to stay one night a couple years back and that was decent, but you're not gonna get those for waving a score about at anyone.

Le Reve is great, you could treat her to the VIP package for $200 and that was really good

Terry Fator @ Mirage was good too I thought and you can get an idea of his show by checking youtube.

The Range at Harrahs is supposed to be reasonably good without breaking the bank and it's in Harrahs too, so if Mama Girgy is pinging it in on the slots you might get it comped too Wink

Venetian Bellagio and Aria have the best tourneys and all cash games in Vegas are good!

Also worth noting that centre strip is under a lot of construction on your side of the street at present, not sure how far along they'll be by the time you get out there though and it might be near complete.

Nothing wrong with the cash games where your staying at harrah's either. Mostly full of older players which means lots of fish according to many on here

How can anyone argue the general rule is the younger players are better?

Sorry for offtopic. Love was a fantastic show definitely recommend!

Airport
Cost about $25-$30 to Harrahs for taxi. Shuttle bus is about $8 return, and can be booked online. Takes you to the back of Harrahs and is very good. Can also get a free shuttle to the Rio from here twice per hour.

Shows
'O' at Bellagio very good as is Love at Mirage.

Food
Grand Lux Cafe at Palazzo is top notch with a massive menu and great service. Well priced and don't need to book.

Poker
Venetian always good, but most places will cater for what you are looking for at various times of the day. The nearer to your hotel the better IMO.
