6max gukpt 220 buy in.
Moved tables and got two people I know. One thinks I'm absolutely mental. I min the button to 400 at 100/200 25. Flop king 8 8 all black two clubs. He checks I bet 350, he makes it 1050. He is beyond polarised in this spot, can't imagine him raising a king. We have ace5hhhow do we proceed? We are playing 16k he has me covered

just fold it here and take advantage of your "mental" image, no point leveling yourself here. i would make it bigger pre also.

fold, if he thinks your mental hes not going to give a 3bet or a float much credit.

This is a good spot to
sometimes
check back the flop - especially vs semi-thinking opponents who have a particular image of you. It is supposedly such a 'good flop to cbet' that you are able to successfully manipulate your perceived range through checking back
provided the situation/dynamic is correct
. When you check back you are repping a hand with decent SD value, and in the right type of dynamic this can actually make you
more
likely to win the pot (either through a delayed cbet, or through simply getting Ace high to SD). The idea is that an opponent will assume you have no air in your range when you check back this flop, so your perceived range becomes pairs, weak Kx and perhaps slowplayed 8x hands. Thus villain may actually be
less
likely to attack you on the turn if he has little to no equity or SD value since he likely won't want to commit himself to trying to get something like 99 to fold by the river. Put yourself in villain's spot and think how you'd react to a check back on this flop, and what sort of range you'd naturally assume your opponent had.
Tbh, you don't have the perfect hand to do this with... but it is still a play worth thinking about in this sort of spot.

I feel like he rofl peels super wide here, then just tries to win the pot when he thinks he can. I only have small amounts of actual history

honeybadger makes a good point, with a mental image on a "good flop to cbet" you are going to get zero credit for having it, checking back will give the insinuation of showdown value (which we actually do have in this case). we are more likely to get folds on the turn where are range is perceived to be stronger this is based on the rage of hands we would check back flop/bet turn on a board that we would almost always cbet our full range of air.

Agree. Cbet doesn't need to be automatic. With this image its certainly worth playing a stronger range
and showing up with the goods especially with this board texture too.

check flop and delay c bet turn, as played fold
when we c bet this board with a bad image what hands actually fold to the c bet, we are getting called by any pair prob most aces and alot of draws will c/r here. Plus we have little equity in the hand anyway should we get called (not like we can turn a Flush draw and barell etc) and actually some S/D with A high.
