As title says this is my first PHA post. Think I made a complete mess of the hand but would still like some thoughts. Constructive criticism was the reason I joined here, so here goes...

£150 tourney at DTD last night. 92 runners, 60 left, pays to 12.

Blinds: 1200/600/100 (and just about to go up to 1600/800)  & table is 9 handed

Stack: 39K   most opponents have me covered but none by very much

Image: I generally do play tight and in 4 hours had only shown down 3 hands which were KTs, AJs & AA. However I'm not sure the table neccessarily considered me to be that tight as they seemed to have noticed my aggression in the few hands I had won rather than all the hands I had folded

I get   UTG and raise to 2,700. 4 players call, with the last one being the BTN (blinds both fold). With the exception of 1 they all have me slightly covered.

Pot - 16,200
Flop -

I check, then the next 3 players check, all of whom I'm almost certain would have bet practically all strong hands. The BTN, who's playng about 49K, then bets 10K. He is quite an old guy, has played quite straight-forward apart from 1 hand where he made a big raise with 44 on a 3-5-6 flop with 5 players in the pot, and he seems to overbet the pot when strong (although it's likely he doesn't think in terms of pot fractions etc)

So action is back on me.....

Snap-fold?

Snap fold pre-flop?

Is the table quite loose for you to get 4 callers? I personally don't open UTG with if the table is very loose as I know I will be called by lots of players and you are out of position with a marginal hand. I fold pre and also snap fold when the BTN bets not only because of his image but also because of the players left to act behind you.

I think the raise pre is good, you have a solid TAG image and we are approaching the bubble. Think it can only be bad if the table is 3betting lots. As it is you attract multiple callers which isn't really so bad with the sort of hand you have.

There's 60 left so not approaching bubble but still like the open. Your hand flops well although do understand arguments for folding pre.

This board hits opponents ranges hard. Although your hand looks tempting, realistically it's not strong enough to continue to any sort of pressure so fold and move on.

About half the field will see it as approaching the bubble

fold pre on a peel happy table, going to be in difficult spots too many times in bad position with marginal holdings at this stage of the comp.

JTs multiway is awesome anyway and we're here to have fun, doubt I've folded it live unopened in my life.

Easy check fold on the flop - 10k is a lot of your chips and there's 3 people still left to act behind you. Lots of turns are horrible if you decide to call and there's just no need to get tricky or bluff at this stage of the tournament.

Thanks for the replies guys. Figured it was (should have been...) an easy check-fold on the flop but was more unsure about the open UTG with these stacks, so it's nice to get some different thoughts on it (i.e. it's nice to know I'm not an idiot for questioning it).

Never think your an idiot for questioning anything in poker. Lots of things that were accepted as "standard" a couple of years ago are terrible now... Questioning yourself about everything is absolutely the best thing you can be doing
