Anyone on here had the need to buy barcodes for their products?
We're needing to get some for our bottled beer. Any advice most welcome.
Could be a reward of bottles of beer for any top tips......

Go to the zoo and photograph some zebras.
Print them out and stick them on the bottles - job done.

Many thanks for your help. Here's your bottle of beer. Don't drink it all at once. Click to see full-size image. |

GS1 website any help? http://www.gs1uk.org/resources/help_support/Pages/GS1numbersforbarcoding.aspxAssume you will need a GTIN-13 if you are going into store distribution as well as online. Once you have assigned numbers most font packages can develop a GTIN 13 barcode. No idea what sort of distribution you aiming for but "beer" in mind if you going for the big boys (Tesco, M&S, WMM, Asda etc) they will all have specific requirements that differ retailer to retailer.

What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question?

You can create barcodes in CorelDraw if you have access to it. There's lots of different types though. Not that it helps but I read an article once on QR codes, (those new funky square barcodes) where you could have coloured ones and have an image in them too. Can't remember where it was, maybe PC Pro magazine, but it was interesting.

most product produced or labelled in uk and europe use a barcode format called EAN 13
You cannot randomly produce these you need to go to a printer that is able to create these codes or pay for the abilty to create your own
try a commerial printer like "paxar"
alternatively you could if customers will accept it use a free format type of barcode ie code 39 and print your own
word of warning if you going to print your own you will need decent thermo printer to give good qaulity barcodes

Many thanks for the responses. We've purchased a pack of 10 barcodes which will be enough to get us started. Not initially looking to supply any of the "big boys" - plenty of gift shops, hotels and restaurants around Loch Ness to keep us going for a while.
For a bit of background, we've been brewing for just over a year on a 2 barrel plant but have now expanded to an 8 barrel plant with new premises along the road. Cask ale demand is good, but demand for the bottles is quite staggering, hence the need for barcodes!
Exciting times but bloody difficult due to our shitty banking system.
All we need to do now is brew a BlondeNESS for the poker world....

Might order some Well, the website's got descriptions of the beers www.lochnessbrewery.com which should, hopefully, tantalise your tastebuds. Early in the New Year we should be OK for sending out beers - don't have enough stocks just yet - so sadly none for Christmas. Let me know and I'll sort some out at very reasonable costs.

Aye, didn't take us too long to come up with the names! Keep it simple I always think. That way I can understand it.
