Innocent until proven guilty, thus naming any on arrest is extremely problematic isn't it?

Can be extremely prejudicial on the case as well, so isn't helpful for the victims either.

There are now in excess of 600 people claiming to have been abused by Jimmy Saville in the 70's and 80's. It seems all forms of media including blondepoker are taking that very seriously and giving it absolute credibility. Sorry, but it is a joke to me and I'm sick of hearing about celebrity child abuse morning noon and night. I think 600 people waiting 40yrs to come forward is more of a handicap to resolving child abuse issues than my joke was but there you go.

That's what the jury often has to decide. As do the police beforehand and the CPS or whatever they're called now. @Mantis, adult rape victims can be reluctant to come forward and report the crimes for fear of not being believed. Can only try to imagine what it's like to be abused as a child and not be able to tell anyone for whatever reason. Many probably thought that they'd never tell their story and as they got older had to live with the thought that it would be believed less as time goes on and so they'd somehow have to keep silent.

I think everything to do with the name of the people arrested should be kept private, until guilty. Its a fuking disgrace to imo, no justice if people are exposed for just being questioned.

Agree. But 600 people all too scared to speak before? And all the adults that witnessed it?

I think I agree. It's almost a certainty that some poor innocent bloke will have his life ruined. Who was it that said 'It's better that 10 guilty men go free than one innocent man be wrongly convicted'? I have to admit that I thought Ace2M's post was a bit OTT because it invited people to speculate on a public forum about who might be guilty of child abuse, and I can also see what a tough spot it was for Tighty.

I don't know if all 600 are valid cases, but if the number is 60, 600 or 6,000 the police have an obligation to follow it up. The UK has no statute of limitations on sex crimes - whereas other countries do. It's obviously open to debate which one is 'right' or 'better'.

I think the problem today is when society broach certain subjects like child abuse and racism people lose their minds and turn to jelly. So when 600 people make claims anybody who doesn't believe them is branded insensitive and distasteful. All I see these days are agencies encouraging people to make claims for accidents or ppi or whatever. We live in a society where making claims is a way of life. So my joke poked fun at this aspect of modern society.
You can see what I mean because that joke was removed as it was loosely associated with child abuse and therefore unacceptable. I understand what a serious issue child abuse is and feel that is much different from joking about people's over zealous desire to make claims for anything and everything.
There are now a few jokes in this thread.
