One of my mates- massive conspiracy theorist thinks she was knocked off by the Royal family cos she knew too much!

So can we expect the Dj's and all their Australian listeners to be dispensed with too?

Might already be happening. I'm regretting posting the above. They may come after me

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they're not after you.

It's just another stunt that TV and radio stations pull from time to time. Mindless and not funny, but you can't anticipate someone topping themselves as a result. Although it was probably unavoidable, the vilification of the idiots at the radio station is unjustified. In a way, the populist media who sustain it are pandering to the lowest common denominator as much as the populist entertainers who made the call.

I'm pretty unconvinced, though, by the hospital's eagerness to get out that they had been 'supporting' the staff involved since the call. Presumably they had to revise or reinforce procedures pretty sharply and get the message across. Following the ease with which the previous procedures were overcome, that message may have been reinforced fairly robustly. We don't know the nature of the formal and informal reactions the nurse encountered at the hospital, but she would certainly have had concerns about the perception of her by other staff and the hospital, possibly including real or imagined fears of disciplinary outcomes. Of course, we don't know (yet) what happened at the hospital in the day or two after the incident, but it is possible that people are looking in the wrong direction for the source of her distress.

It's silly. Lots of entertainment forms do pranks. Noel's House Party, Beadle's About, Fonejacker, etc. I don't think these two are the first.

I think everyone apart from Aaron has pretty much agreed with this.

But this is not a prank is it. Anyone knows you don't want to say anything about being preggy early on. Very very few people decide to make it public before 12 weeks as its a minefield for problems, add this the fact you have acute morning sickness it can be serious and if not treated correctly misscarrages happen. Given the fact that they were forced to admit early pregnancy and she was ill, what sick fuk thinks its clever to extract the exact illness and condition of the pair of them? what if they had said it was more serious that first thought and the baby was at danger? what would have been the reaction then?

I know its a slight overreaction and not much further then camping outside the hopstial 24/7 like alot of the TV crews but blimey enough is enough. As Ian Thorpe twitted, people have to think about the consequences of what they do...and if it turns shit they have to man up and take the responsibility.

Pranks in the norm dont get sensitive medical information from vunerable patients.

MintTrav's point is a good one, and not one I've seen much talked about in the coverage of this. The hospital said they'd been very supportive of her and she was under no disciplinary proceedings but is it likely that someone who had full and obvious support from her employer and work colleagues goes home and kills herself?

To me, it's really unlikely that someone who makes a very public screw-up like she did, especially in a situation concerning the Royal family, does not get an almighty bollocking at work.

Anyone who kills themselves due to a telling off at work has deep seated issues. If it wasn't this it would have been something next week/month

It's the hospitals fault. She was not trained in correct protocol and there should of been a senior manager there 24 hours to filter these mindless tossers away from staff.

I hope they feel like shit and lose their careers the  s (lol). No one ever learns. Noel Edmonds stopped the pranks pretty quick after the poor bloke died in a rehearsal. Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand is another example with Andrew Sachs. And our media call it a "cruel and vicious stunt" and then park 40 people on the the front door of the poor woman who took the call!

Leveson my arse. Everyone is out to make a buck but social media is kicking arse. I do love the Max Clifford and Starbucks shit though. What goes around comes around. Especially a big shitty stick.

I had decided that the OP's stance is the only one that a thinking person can have and this thread has confirmed this.

The prank wasn't a big issue really, and would have been quickly forgotten about.  But the press made it into a massive story. They're the ones that propelled it into a 'major' story giving it front-page coverage and keeping it in the spotlight.  The role of the tabloids in this shouldn't be overlooked.

Some people take their work really seriously and it is their entire life. Is it really that hard to understand that someone with depression etc can't be pushed over the edge by being publicly humiliated like this?
