I like the idea of the categories thing, remember it too. It worked well.

Certainly will be considered for this time next year, either instead of or in addition to an advent calendar which I might throw across to a team as its certainly not meant to be autocratic!!

I love the idea that this is an autocratic system in the same way North Korea is.

Found the balance there, perfectly.

It's a bit of fun and there only seems to be one dissenting grinchosaurus, who, rather than waiting until December has passed and then proposing an alternative system for 2013, has decided to do so now.

Whoever is up tomorrow now will question whether they have any form of popularity beyond TightEnd and have to wait to see whether enough other blondites post underneath with their support, lest they doubt their suitability.

I'm not questioning the validity of your point; just its timing and perhaps its phrasing.

Mantis strolls casually along the line between controversial poster and troll.

Here he has nonchalantly, but quite deliberately, stepped into trolldom.

The advent calendar is a bit of fun, which everyone treats as such.

It doesn't matter how or why people are chosen.

Just enjoy it or don't open the thread if it really bugs you.

Maybe Tighty could 'move' the last page to a 'how should the calendar run' thread for debate and at least that way the main thread doesn't become derailed for multiple pages....../derail

Haven't had the pleasure of meeting either of the Gascoignes yet, but hopefully will rectify that at DTD in 2013...

Love Mr Gascoigne's commentary, great tekkers and he's certainly a colossal double act in the booth with Tighty!

Ed's posts in the sports board are great to read and he's obviously a very smart chap. The only downside is it hits home the reality of how I'm always going to be in Millidonk's camp and never likely to migrate over to the sharper side of things Sad

Watch this space, & give me a few minutes please, we have already agreed so to do.

Was going to post something along these lines.  Seems you can't even make fun posts these days without someone complaining.

Some interesting points have been raised as to how selection for the blonde Advent Calendar could or should be made.

Some like it "as is", some may prefer a different method.

The current method is that Tighty selects a "long list", which he then seeks feedback from the other Mods as to suitability. Agreement on this year's Entries by the Mods have been almost unanimous, Tighty (with only the very minimum of nudging from others) seems - in our view - to have got it spot on, most especially as to some of the yet to be revealed spots which I very much doubt would ever have been voted for, but I'm pretty certain everyone will agree are most apt.  It is NOT a popularity contest (at present) it is designed with other purposes in mind.

However, not everyone agrees on this system, which is fine & dandy, & so maybe now is the time to decide how (or even if) it moves forward in 2013.

What is clear - imo - is that now is not the time, & the actual 2012 Advent Calendar thread is not the place, to discuss it. Doing so detracts from the "feel-good" factor which is the whole idea of it, especially for those selected. We really are keen to ensure the feel-good from it is not diluted.

Very shortly, all Posts on the 2012 Advent Thread which debate the suitability & means of the current selection means & criteria will be moved to this thread.

Thanks.

There are things that a taboo around here. I would never post that its raining here In Scunthorpe in Taximans "sun is always shining" thread.

I like Mantis coz he takes some of the heat off me for a bit but don't ruin the Christmas calendar. Obv tighty has to scrape the barrel a bit this year because he put most of the real heros in last years calendar. Wink

Just my luck that Tighty has gone offline & I need him to move the Posts.

I'll have a bash shortly, but if both threads disappear, you know who to blame.....

FFS, how do I get myself into these spots?
