my brother was big into spinners too - remember they were a massive craze and they had loads of tournaments around the place (outside sweetshops and things) where you could win prizes for doing the best tricks - think someone came to our school to give a demonstration as well.
reminded me of these, which were roughly around the same time I think

Had a gold coke one, thought I was the muts nuts. Couldn't do that much with them tbh, couple of tricks, I remember one being called rock the cradle where you spun the yo you and kept it at the bottom.. then folded the string into a triangle and rocked the yo yo back and forth through your newly created shape. Wow the memories.

Yes Tal, collectors items that kids of the day craved. Think I bought my gold one for way over the odds, but I had to have it.

Can you imagine anything of the like nowadays?
Kids yo-yo competitions, held outside the local sweet shop, the winner receiving a better colour yo-yo!
and not just that, but yo-yos so coveted that even Bettsy parted with some cash !!!!!!

My old man could do all the tricks with a yo yo. He taught me the basics like walking the dog and the craddle.

I knows, imagine me getting my pound notes out from my moth lined Farah slacks. I used to run at book on the FA cup at primary school and it was not as predictable as today's FA cup, teams like Wimbledon won for me making it a zero pay out and notes to burn. Just doing a service for the kids of Hayfield Primary who could not get on with the big 2! Of the day.
