morning folks,

my first PHA entry so please allow for errors, and i was quite tired thru the game + some manflu issues so memory isnt 100%

i dont play a great deal live or online, as i have financial responsibilities, but ocasionally treat myself to a decent game, came 13th in chip leader earlier in the year so i can play, just dont have the funds normally

anyway, here goes:

Incred 100 played on saturday, 128 runners, 16 paid, about 30 left

average stack about 120k, i have about 250k, blinds at 4000/8000 /100 ( i think) and 30 minute levels

first hand after a break and the following happens:

UTG min raise to 1600, leaves himself about 100k

UTG + 1 thinks for 10 seconds and confidently reraises to 40k, leaving approx 70-80k behind

Fold

instant reraise all in by young guy to my right who has a big stack, has my easily covered

i have    ...........

so, i have about 30BB left, with another 15 or so players to go before the money, and a very good hand i'd usually get them in with, but i'm faced with a 4bet ahead of me, a confident 3 bet before him, and a semi scarey min raise from UTG!

I took about 3 minutes to think this through, while there were various comments such as "has everyone got a hand?" "whats taking so long" (lol) etc and the UTG + 1 and all in guy were both loooking quietly confident.

so i reluctantly pass the hand, everyone else folds to the min raiser who also folds, and the UTG + 1 puts his last 70k in

hands turned over are: QQ and AA, with UTG saying i had a small pair, and i made a huge sigh of releif and say i folded KK, much to the suprise of some of the players

as it happens the baord ran out K 3 T (UTG had 33!), * , T so i'd ahve had a boat, but got them in bad......

So, i'm happy with my read, and i made the technically correct fold in that position, but my question is, to the more experienced MTT players, did i do the right thing in that spot, at that stage of the tournament, or should i have got them in hoping i was against AK/QQ/JJ type hands?

Input welcome, good or bad

Mick

PS, came 11th in the end, ran out of chips and options, but very happy with how i played all tournament, only making a couple of small mistakes

Didn't read anything after you said you had kings. It's a cooler if someone has aces here

Could see me folding Queens but not Kings

Of course really important is the read on the guy who makes it 40k.

Been thinking about this more. It might be possible to fold this live in a 100 freezeout. Think I've folded kings 3 time before pre flop and was wrong twice. Never say never but could be really player dependant in this spot.

Not folding kings for several reasons:

1. KINGGSSSSS
2. (now for the serious response) The ONLY guy that matters in this hand is the fella who covers you. The only hand you dont want to see is AA. If mr 40k has AA - its a cooler and you have 120kleft -.

However it surely has to be impossible to put the guy that covers you on just AA. If you call and win (and lose to the other players), the side pot is still a break even play. This is why we arent folding KK in this spot

Folded em 3 times ever, all three times was between 100 and 500bbs deep. Never ever done it or will do it with 30bbs in a £100 freezeout! Get it in kid.

pfft.... who folds kings pre???

on a serious note i cant say this is a spot which I'd consider folding them in, especially to 'a young guy with alot of chips'.

Good read though, shame about the result Sad

Screw everyone imo, if you want to fold them sling them in. Back your instincts.

some interesting answers there, thanks all for the input.

the one that really made me think was this one:

i'll try to take the above onboard and think that extra level next time i'm in a live game, which might be the 150k gtd if i can satty in tomorow night !!!!

cheers again all

dont do a 'John Black' and try to be a hero...

We have 30bbs and KK, we are not folding before the community cards are dealt.
