Amarillo Slim liked to find out what his opponents do when they are comfortable, so he got them relaxed and asked questions about them they would inevitably answer honestly ("how was your journey?" "Played here before?" "Married?" And so on). So now you know what the 'control' is. Anything else will show signs of deception (hiding a good hand or hiding a bad hand, we don't yet know)

Shaking hands when they bet can signify a monster, or they've just given up heroin.

Don't recall ever shaking anyone's hand when I've made a bet.

you never were a gentleman.

Highlights the problems with the yoof of today. No manners at all.

Nothing really to add other than it weighs a lot in my game. One thing I will say is, prepare for a lot of mis-reads on "new" villains, or at least I have.

One of the classics is 'thumbs hidden = weakness' so I make a point of always having my thumbs out when I'm sat waiting for a call or fold or whatever.
Unless I'm really strong, in which case I tuck them into my fists.
Or do I?

I think bet sizes and patterns tell more than physical tells generally and the upper-echelon players have worked so hard on being consistent in their physical posture and timing to make the physical clues really small.

Players who recline in their seat at a 45 degree angle, then flag a valet down with their right hand raised firmly above their head with their index finger pointing to the dealer, with a slightly cocked wrist action, normally have at least QQ in my experience. Especially if they order a non-alcoholic beverage like a J2O. Such a tell. I fold JJ/AKs, face up. Also look at their eyebrows. If they're moving manically, consider passing kings.

Jokes aside. Live tells are a minefield.

However, they are to be ignored at your peril.  I have stopped listening to music at the table and started paying more attention to the table because there is a lot of information there to be picked up, if you pay attention.

I have played against people that have had really consistent tells, some so much so that if this person did x, I would keep raising until I win the hand. Also, i have seen someone do x and then id be folding everything but the very best hands.. No matter what.

These are almost never the same from person to person, however I have noticed some things I do, and im not completely alone on some of them.

Tread carefully, pay a lot of attention and when you've seen something 3/4/5 times.. Start experimenting with it.  If it proves profitable, keep doing it. If not, stop.

Bit of a meh post tbh, should probably delete.
