Huge computer help needed

Getting a fatal error message and these are the instructions
I've gathered from google.
If someone could articulate these instructions
Down the phone to me I will put you in the Sunday million
On an 80/20 in your favour freeroll
Okay, after much searching of Google, I found an answer that worked for me, my computer is now fixed without having to reinstall the OS. Solution courtesy of Aran, was found athttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistasp/thread/4491fe25-be44-430e-a384-fb58c5da5ad0/
It essentially involves doing a manual system restore.
- Open the recovery console
- Change working directory to whatever the root folder of the Windows install is (might be D: or some other letter for some people):
cd /d C:\windows\system32\config
Rename the following files by typing the following:
ren default default.old
ren sam sam.old
ren security security.old
ren software software.old
ren system system.old
- Change the working directory:
cd regback
- Copy the files from this directory to the previous directory as follows:
copy default c:\windows\system32\config
copy sam c:\windows\system32\config
copy security c:\windows\system32\config
copy software c:\windows\system32\config
copy system c:\windows\system32\config
- Having done this, I restarted my computer, and it booted all the way with no errors. However, it seemed somewhat unstable, so I booted into Safe Mode and ran CHKDSK (chkdsk /B) and conducted a normal system restore to before the service pack install using the normal method. To fix remaining problems, I ran sfc /scannow. My computer now seems to be running as well as ever.
Hope this helps,
Sam

If you can turn it on and go into windows thats a start, then copy owt u need on an external HD or something, if not try boot in safe mode. Else unless something really important on just wipe and fresh install.

You might need a windows CD to open the recovery console, simple instructions here:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/recovery_run_console.mspx?mfr=true
Once you've done that, in the command prompt that appears type the following lines exactly as written, assuming windows was installed on your C: drive (v likely)
cd /d C:\windows\system32\config
ren default default.old
ren sam sam.old
ren security security.old
ren software software.old
ren system system.old
cd regback
copy default c:\windows\system32\config
copy sam c:\windows\system32\config
copy security c:\windows\system32\config
copy software c:\windows\system32\config
copy system c:\windows\system32\config

If you do need to boot from the windows CD, you might need to go into your bios and change the boot order, this process will be different for every computer but just typing your computer make+model into google with "change boot sequence" should get you the right instructions.

If I don't care about losing saved stuff, is there a way I can just go back to how it was at first

insert Windowns Dvd/CD and let it boot up from that
wipe the lot and fresh install...if this works then all good, just spend a few hours after installing internet/software
