I don't think this can be classed as 'banter'.

Either racist or very stupid

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k. “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi. Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

If its between friends, in a private conversation, then you can easily get away with. Assuming it is accepted by both. To say it to a newspaper is just plain stupidity.

you can get away with anything between friends as long as both parties know its a joke between friends
as work colleagues at work where one is the boss he cant get away with it even if they are mates
now i call myself a cripple and a few of my close mates get away with calling me a cripple
but if a random out of nowhere called me a cripple i would beat the shit out of him (verbally without stooping too his level)
if i was in an environment where i was being asked too work for a mate that gets away with calling me a cripple in private it would not be acceptable for him to do it at work
everything i said should go for race too

I personally think people are far too sensitive ...
I am bold and fat ! .....Not black or brown but is boldly or fatty less offensive to hear than paki ?
I get called all sorts but don't take offence ....unless it was constant or relentless!
Answer : Not racism

When A is having some banter with B, the problem isn't what A and B understand to be the acceptable boundaries of their relationship; it's what person C, D, E and Z understand when they happen to hear it.
It is all about context.
Private conversation and a joke between mates is almost certainly going to be fine. But outside those parameters, there is always a risk of someone else taking offence.
It is the old subjective v objective test.
What does person B (the recipient/subject of the comment) think of it? Subjective
What would an ordinary passer-by think of the comment? Objective.
The darts one beggars belief.

Yes, but you could put the doughnuts down for 5 minutes and be less strident in your views, then you'd be less bold and fat - they're choices you have made. Skin colour isn't a choice.

The thing is, the term 'Paki' has been hijacked anyway.
'Stan' is 'land of the...' 'place of the...' 'home of the...'
So just like England is 'land of the Angles', Scotland is 'land of the Scots', similarly Afghanistan is 'land of the Afghanis', Kazakhstan is 'land of the Kazakhs' and Pakistan is 'land of the Pakis'. Easily forgotten.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bradford/features/2005/03/paki.shtml
I guess it's just the tone and context in which the word is used - and by who. But the trouble is, the PC Brigade don't see it like that. As soon as they hear the word they fall about themselves in a state of hysteria :-(
Good points lee
Don't think del-boy is racist either !!

Bald, the word is bald. Bold means something different.
What physical abuse have you suffered as a result of your baldness?

What is the debate then?
You just annoyed you can't go round shouting Paki any more without someone getting on your case?
