Somehow on my laptop Facebook has shrunk on my screen to just cover the middle vertical third of my screen.

It works fine on my ippy.

Any ideas how to get it back to normal?

Sounds like a zoom problem. Happens on mine, where I drag the sensor next to the touchpad and it shrinks.

Tried that?

is it just FB or all pages in IE/Firefox/Chrome?

If the latter, try right clicking on the taskbar and unticking "show windows side by side" if it is ticked
