What about a function to see previous edits?

Do mods already have this privilege?

No. Nor can we tell if a post has been edited unless we stumble upon it ourselves.

Meh, unless there was specific reason to change this which you haven't said, then I would say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Old system seemed fine to me

Am with the Camel here, seems strange, dont see why the need to change it. For the record, i posted a couple of posts in the diary section and 2mins after, couldnt modify them.

Good morning.

Clearly, this change was not made without reason.

We had hoped it would solve a temporary problem that arose suddenly, & the matter could be sorted nice & quietly, without all the usual hoohah. This does not appear to be possible, so myself or one of the other Mods will try & explain the reasoning behind the change later this morning. I need to sort some other stuff first, but soon as that is done, & if the other Mods have not been on in the interim, I'll try & explain the matter.

It's quite a complex thing, so please bear with us, & be understanding.

Thanks.

Several people have reported the same thing. It may be because the settings were not changed correctly, we'll get Iron or Kinboshi to have a look under the bonnet.

The old system seemed fine to us, too............but we found ourselves in a very difficult spot the day before yesterday.

Apologies to those affected by this change. It seems that in some cases, the tweak has not worked correctly, & we'll look at that today, & attempt to sort it.

We had no wish or desire to make the change, but a bit of a problem arose, & it needed addressing urgently, in our opinion.

We've had recent incidents where people have taken it on themselves to delete their posts, in some cases all their posts, and this has caused issues with threads not making sense. If an Opening Post is effectively deleted (or more correctly, all the Text is edited out, & repleced with a blank Post) it makes a bit of a nonsense of the whole thread.

Other Posts, mid-thread, if removed, also mean that the whole thread completely loses it's flow, & context.

So we had a bit of a problem, & needed to act quickly to try & resolve the issue.

It may have been a one-off, & perhaps we can scrap the idea in due course, we are not sure yet.

We can certainly modify the time period to anything that seems right & sensible, too. All constructive feedback welcome.

It does cause other problems, too, as Dan Morgan pointed out.

Also, when we run Sweepstakes & Competitions, & have a need to repeatedly Update an OP to keep track of results & scores, that gets pretty awkward too.

We certainly did not make the changes without good reason, & we had good intent in doing so.

Hopefully, we can work together & sort things out to the satisfaction of all.

Staking threads etc can be sorted by setting up a spreadsheet through Google and posting a link to it through the OP.

It is what it is now. I'm sure we will all managed to cope somehow.

Personally I think it should be as long as possible, 30 mins seems unnecessarily short.

Entirely deliberate, of course...ish.

Just proofread before you post!

Prefer warning, then banning people who are making these late edits than imposing a change on everyone when 99.9% of posters manage to act in a sensible manner.

I quite like that solution too Keith, but I'm bound to say that  banning members, even after repeated warnings, still causes headaches and spawns 'Bring back so and so' threads.

I think a workable solution would be to extend the edit time to a few hours, after that posts could still be edited by typing something like,

EDIT- There will now be 30 people on the the charabanc instead of the previously stated 29.

Some people need to get a bloody life instead of wasting their time causing trouble for others.

Without moderators, this place would die within 6 months.

They might make mistakes, but I have 100% confidence everything they do is done in good faith and with the best intentions.

I thought I made a mistake once, but I was wrong.

I was right all along.
