STT advice needed

Late dec i went all tilty and damaged my bankroll online. Now rather reload from my cash out account, i deceided i did the damage, i'd best repair it.
So i looked back at last year and went back to STT on Blu Sqr. Starting on $3 and doing the old win and move up a level, 2nd or 3rd stay that level ,lose and move down a level.  When bankroll hits a certain amount move up a level as starting point.
I started this on 7th of jan with less than $100 and i am now at the point where i am moving into $50 $100 $200 games.

Now heres where i hit the problems

when you move from $20 to $25 after a win your Paying an extra $5.50 to play, a little over a 25% increase in stake, so a lose doesn't harm you a great deal. You can drop down to $20's and maybe lose another.

now say you move from a $100....... next level is costing $110 more to playing a $100% increase in stake, if you lose here in then drop a level you have to win the next game you play or you are losing money.

Now i know that you can money a few in a row or have a winning run (i think at $100 or $200 this is a lot harder than $25 $50)

Do i stay at the $25/50 and grind out or do i stick to the game plan and take the rough with the smooth for the chance to build my bankroll quicker.

The aim is to end up with a roll to play $100 and $200 as my standard game, skim some off for mtt and cash out a large % of any mtt wins.
The stt should maintain my roll through out

I would stay at your current level for the STT, as if your doing well and winning at this level why change.

You will be able to play more games at  $25/50 than you would at the higher level.

If you hit a bad run in the higher STT it may wipe your bankroll, where in your current level if you hit a bad run by not going up to the higher stakes this would be covered by the possible loss at $100/200 games.

I say clean them up at your current level.

A standard bankroll for a winning player is 50x the buyin, so to play $100 STTs you should have $5k. However if you are willing to take a few risks to get to the $5k and are confident that you beating the games, (keep detailed records) then you you can play off as little as 20 buyins.

Your better off buildiing a solid foundation before moving up a level so that if you do run bad for a bit it doesn't hurt you too much. Buidling a sufficient bankroll for the next level before moving up will get you to your goal with less heartache than the forward one step, back one step technique and may even get you there quicker because you give yourself more chances when you move up. eg Move up to $50 when you have $1.5k and move down again if you drop below $1k. When you get to $3k move up to $100, move down if you drop below $2k etc.

Cheers wardonkey. i am working on a 20x by in and at the moment as my roi is high( 53.4%)i was going to move to 30x buy in if it drops to below 35%and 50x buy in if it goes to below 25%.
and yes my records are tip top. I even detail home games and cost of poker books magazines and my interenet connection, even my lappy came from my poker account.All my money for poker is in a dedicated bank account. I think my poker should at least pay for itself. i was aiming for about 5-6k for my roll to give me freedom.

At the mo i have played 74 stt games since jan 7th ..........17x 1st place

                                                                                   11x 3rd place

it would seem that $20-$25 is actually my best level but last time i did this it was $50, i haven't played many $50 this time though, and my stt strat seems different, less 1sts as a % but bigger roi through more mobney finishes.
I don't mind the moving up and down as it keeps it interesting, but its doubling the buy in i think is bad for roi.

What if i say move up 1 step after say 3 in a row money finish (including a 1st) or 2 1sts in a row to move up. BUT still move down on a lose

Those are impressive stats, but your sample size is very small. I doubt very much that your incredible ROI is sustainable in the long term. If you can get 20% ROI on the $100s over the long term (min 500 STTs, pref 1000) then your doing very well indeed (better than me).

I would prefer to set financial targets to meet before moving up rather than using a ladders type system. Your ultimate goal after all is financial and you want to be in situation where you have a sustainable bankroll that you can draw money from each month, rather than spending all your time dancing up and down the levels.

sample is small but thats what i've played so far. I expect roi on $50-100 to plumet. Simple truth is there are so many poor stt players at the mo its not hard to hit the money at the $20-$25 level.


I used to put results on utg but got so behind i gave up. will sit and do it soon.

Overthegun.com, it is a site with leaderboards wher you can submit your results from different sites and compare your results. Quite a few Tribeca players use it to compensate for the lack of a leaderboard there.
