Google Glass @ the poker table?

Should they or shouldn't they be banned?  As an aside, I do think that effective HUD on Google Glass would be only a matter of time away, and I think we're talking a matter of a few years.

Sadly no, I wrote it the day before that post and did it after something similar was written by the Polish version of our site.

Really? As in something that could actually record & recognise human actions and compile it into poker data like VPIP? Thats bonkers if so, but then again I am impressed that you can have customised ring tones.

From the other end of the spectrum, it could help Casino's by having all dealers wear them to record action at the table to assist in rulings, suspicions of cheating etc.

All fascinating technology, I can see benefits and downfalls to general living of life.

Thinking about this further, and moving the technology on a few years it gets even more interesting/sinister.

What's to stop someone in 2017, wearing Google Glass 5.2 and using the latest 'X-Ray Specs' app, that enables them to identify cards from their backs?  You sit at a table long enough with the same deck of cards and I'm sure that if you recorded and examined the back of each card in detail you'd be able to distinguish some from others.  A computer doesn't get tired or bored, and would be able to do exactly that given enough time and data.  Might not be able to identify all the cards, but could probably work out quite a few of them over time from small markings on them, etc.  The technology isn't available yet, but it could be down the line. 

Also the danger that someone could 'hack' the system that reads the cards for the TV using the embedded coil, enabling a player to 'see' all the cards on the table instantly as though they were face up. 

What happens when the technology is miniaturised enough to work through a contact lens and a very small device hidden away?

As for the 'live HUD', I don't see why not.  My compact camera can do face recognition (not perfectly, but the more you train it, the better it gets).  All the camera would need to do is to tag a face (and other features) to distinguish an individual - or you could manually tag them, and then it can record the bets a player makes and the hands shown.  As a human playing, you try to obtain as much information as possible, but you can't always remember the betting or the hands shown, especially if you're not in a hand and are too busy flirting with the pretty valet.  A computer doesn't have those issues, and could constantly be recording data and analysing patterns, etc.  It could do other things too.  My phone has a heart-rate monitor app that uses the camera to count the beats of your heart from blood-flow in your blood vessels.  I'm sure it could monitor someone's neck or face from a distance and do the same with the right equipment. All this data, plus speech analysis and other stuff could then be compiled to provide information that would aid decision making.

A lot of this is like science-fiction at the moment, but none of it is ridiculously far-fetched.  If the potential gain can be measured in millions of pounds - then there is a motive for someone to focus their attentions on doing this.

I had the idea a while back for a paid app where you take a photo of someone at the table and it searches the hendon mob database using facial recognition and gives you your opponents real-life and online screennames and results and so on. Prob not feasible tho

Would onlyhave a chance of working if everyone put their photo on the database. No casino is going to allow google glass in their premises.

Don't know if I speak for the majority of recreational players but if photo recognition apps or google glasses were allowed at a live table my interest in what I currently enjoy as a fun game would very quickly diminish - it could kill the game as rec players just turn off.

just cannot see them being allowed in a casino your not allowed to take photos in them (unless you get permission) so why would they allow glasses which could take photos without you knowning

could the tech be adapted to look like a pair of "i'm the coolest poker player here" oakleys?
