Hi Matt.

Quote
So without knowing someone prior to them becoming a member of blonde - how would you tell the difference between someone who has good command of the english language and just can't be bother to spell correctly, use correct punctuation etc. etc. with someone who doesnt have good command of the English language and writes their posts badly not through choice but because they dont know any other way?

Only if they say so themselves. I wouldn't just make the assumption and then ignore their post.

As i said in my first post that was deleted earlier i know someone who openly admits to not posting on the site as much as he would like because he isnt as good with words and doesnt want to appear "thick" compared to other posters on the site because his command of the english language isnt as good as the majority.

I hope this guys posts. I wouldn't have a problem reading his posts and I certainly wouldn't consider him to be thick.

He does post on blonde but like i said not as much as he would like - i dont really want to say too much else because it isnt fair on the person who i'm talking about.

This last comment isnt aimed at anyone inparticular but just to everyone in general. I have always understood that the blonde forum would never discriminate against anyone regardless of the colour of their skin, their physical attributes or their educational background (or even if they are a smelly furry flea ridden primates). Whilst posts have been made tonight that may have been written slightly out of context i know that we are all still following the same prinicples that made blonde what it is today - long may it continue Smiley

Yea matt, I make the distiction here, because both mystery and bolt seem to have a good grasp of the subject medium and show the ability to express themselves through language I would consider to be above basic. Yet the way they write their posts means that only the patient readers are going to bother reading what they have to say.

And that is a great shame, because many of us actually want to read what they say!

As for posters who are perhaps not as linguistic as others... who gives a shit! Post away. We're a wide and varied bunch, and if one person takes a dislike to someone because of the way they post, then fk em! It is they who have the problem, not the poster. Now, that might sound a tad contradictory, but it is not. I can critizise peoples posting style without disliking the person.

I can argue about a subject with Scottish Dave, for example, yet still sit down for a beer and a friendly chat in Cincins. Some people get defensive and are a bit sensitive on blonde to certain things when no malice has been shown. I can understand why, this is their home as much as anyone elses and a percieved arguement simply rocks a boat that does not want or needs to be rocked.

Like I said in the Whale post recently. We are all good people who pocess different qualities. Some of us are good with words, some are natural joke tellers, some are always offering their help to others and others are just a good mix of people to have around.

I think we should just put this issue to bed now. We all have our ideas, right or wrong. But they are our ideas. Lets just all get on.

Concentrate on our shared love of cards. It crazy to argue over something so small.

Iron you dont have a problem with either. your spelling and grammar is like mine. But you do know how to use paragraphs. Everything else can be excused. But not using paragraphs is like leaving the toilet seat down.

the topic of my grammar and spelling has become a rather contentious issue since i joined the forum.(yesterday!!). Allow me to clarify a few things if i may.Firstly i am an ardent proponent of correct and proper grammar(much to your suprise).i 'm a long time punter and am just becoming accustumed to the confuigeration of a keyboard.I find it a laborious, interminable undertaking when i write something of significant lengh, thus i take a few short cuts!!!I have developed a propensity to type phoneticaly as i've usually foggoten what i was talking about by the time i've found the correct key.
It is for an amalgamation of these reasons that i type thus.hope you'll bare with me.
If you notice that my grammar is discernably worse at night its cos ive ad a few thanks guys!!!!

If you wish to bare your whatever , feel free.

I for one will not be baring with you.  Roll Eyes

Post however you like, the spelling, grammar, punctuation and structure are irrelevent, it's the tone that matters.

ANYONE who thinks otherwise is a fool.

You cannot convey tone without the use of gramatical correctness and the added use of emoticons, and punctutation which conveys emotion, such as the exclamation mark.

Obviously, no one expects every forum member to construct each post they make in such a way that the Pulitzer Prize committee spontaneously orgasm when they read it. However, posters should try and make an effort to ensure that it is as easy as possible for readers to understand what they are saying.

If you are not the hottest at spelling and grammar, that's no problem. It's rare that incorrect spelling or imperfectly constructed sentences fatally damage the content of a message. Simple things like paragraphs make posts more readable and are not reliant on being able to spell or punctuate correctly.

However, if you just can't be bothered putting effort into whether your message is readable or not then, quite frankly, there are hundreds of other forums you can join.

Some posters of late have appeared to not bother to read their own messages back to themselves before posting. If you can't even be bothered to read your own messages then I don't see why I should either.
