Was having a conversation over a free nandos with fett last night, when the following question came up.

If someone you know dies, and they owe you money. How much does it have to be, before you contact their family and tell them.

Assume it's a friend, that you know fairly well, and assume that either he had enough in the bank to cover the debt, I.e he just hadn't got round to paying you back yet, or, he didn't have it in the bank, but you know his family could pay you back.

Anyone write it off regardless of how much?

Arrange to take the family to see Denise Newman at the Luton G and sort it out that way IMO.

£5k and i would have to be able to prove to his family that he owed me.  If i couldn't do that then i would struggle to ask his family for the money.  Think i would just take it on the chin in that spot if he was a really good mate.

As a sideline Celtic you still good to pick me up from the station at edin on Friday for the GPS?  I get in just after midday.  Which station is the best to get off at for the Genting casino? The train stops at both.

Surely you shoulda taken your friend there first to see if they were gonna die soon, that way you coulda stopped yourself lending him money.

Waverley is best.  Bit of a ***** of an area for parking and that its about £6 in a taxi from there to foutainwell park.

If you do the pick up Celtic then probably best getting off at Haymarket and then drive up behnd Tynecastle way to get to Fountainwell Park.

I wouldn't and never have lent anyone an amount of money I'd be worried about losing.

Wonderful station, the 2nd largest (only behind Waterloo) in the UK.

The adjoining Balmoral Hotel is splendid, & a Harpist plays during Afternoon Tea.

The clock on the Balmoral Hotel roof, which is visible for many a mile, is said to be set 3 minutes fast, so as to help people arrive on time for their train. No idea if that is true, it sounds a bit like bs.

Haha this is 100% true but when I lived with Jp and middy we actually had this discussion as it was fairly commonplace for one of us to owe the other a chunk at any point, if any of us were to ever die (morbid I know!!) what would be the protocol, we decided that if you die owing you're off the hook and if you die owed the debt is gg.

Defo led to few dark thoughts :-D

Reminds me of something that happened in Vegas this year.

Driving back late at night and a lorry pulled over into my lane; thankfully I was pretty awake so managed to brake and avoid but was certainly the closest call I've ever had while driving.

As soon as I got to the house I made a list of every one I stake/everyone who owes me/money at the Rio cage and every poker site I have money on as my family would only think of Sky/Stars and not the 5 or so sites that have £500+ on them and whatsapp'd it to my sister.

I do wonder how many people have died and their family have no idea about their punting habits and the money just sits there - obv on Party they'd just rake it away every 6 months tho.

Could a family contact the Gambling Commission and ask every site if said dead person has a balance maybe?

Good to know I still have a bit left before I have to do a Reggie Perrin....

When I was a senior exec at gaming firms if someone phoned and said a customer had died I would always try and get the relative paid in the least intrusive and best way possible and it always felt a bit scummy to ask for documentation so I would try and verify the death independently and then ask for some kind of proof of their relationship but it was amazing how after we paid them how often they would then phone up and thank us and give us horror stories about the hoops other firms were making them go through.
