I got given this book for christmas, but only started reading it yesterday.

It seems to be pretty good and although I had never seen it anywhere before. I am impressed with its in depth analysis.

I liked this section of the book and have copied it for you here.

Does this describe any of you?

The text below has been taken from - ONLINE POKER in easy steps, Stuart Yarnold, Computer Step, 2005, taken from p60

Inside the Mind of a Poker Pro

We're going to try to get inside the head of a top poker player and identify the charactersitics that make him so good. Comparing yourself to this hypothetical character will give you a good idea whether or not you have what it takes to play winning poker

Purpose

Our man has one thing in mind when he sits down at a poker table: taking the other player's money. He's not there to enjoy himself or to pass the time- this isn't a game to him;it's business.

Focus

He allows nothing to distract him from his purpose. He can't be bullied or intimidated by the other players. When he's playing, he shuts his private life away - personal problems do not affect his play.

Intelligence

He has an analytical brain and is able to do quick mental calculations that enable him to figure out the percentages. He knows which hands to play and how far to play them. He can "work out" his opponents and second-guess them.

Discipline

Our man is able to "shut up shop" when things are going against him. There is no way this guy ia going to lose a cent more than he has to. This enables him to ride out losing streaks that would cripple lesser players.

Observation

He sees everything. He looks for tables with weak players, he knows all the poker tells, and he recognizes danger signs. He can often tell you what cards you are holding.

Cool

The man is unflappable; nothing fazes him. He doesn't get excited and over-confident when he wins, and he dosen't go "on-tilt" when he loses.

Patience

He doesn't expect to be winning all the time; he knows it isn't possible. He'll just sit and wait for good opportunities.

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.
