Ruling question: chips in beer string bet situation

Ok you are the tournament director. What is your ruling?

It is a 500 side event at the Belgian Poker Championships. Guy as a joke puts one of his chips in his beer. Very funny! Those Belgians are comedians.

Few hands later he gets carried away and puts half his stack in his beer and doesn't take it out. It is now 5 mins later and we have played a few hands. He has about 6k in his beer glass and about 12k on the table. Action on this hand goes as follows.

Early position raise, mid position call. Action is on chips in beer guy and he does the following.

First he slides his beer glass over the betting line. Next he goes back and grabs the rest of his chips and pushes them forward. Two seconds later he says 'all in'

Is this a raise to 6k or a call?
Is it a string bet?
Or is he all in?
Should he get a penalty for putting his chips in his beer and refusing to remove them?

Thoughts please!

I would give him a round of the table penalty, stop him drinking anymore.
If he makes any issue of it at all- disqualification.

Their absolutely no need for purposely putting chips in drinks.

His chips would need to be replaced with new chips to the same value.

I don't understand why the floor wasn't called upon the 1st chip going in his drink, had this been the case this ruling would have never popped up. Therefore dealer taken from table asap.

Definately a string bet, so long as 6k is a valid raise it would be 6k.

For more info. Half the dealers for this tournament are brought in from somewhere - who knows where? And are absolutely awful. Struggling to take the antes and deal the hands, let alone anything else.

I've already antagonised the table by trying to hurry up the game, by providing change quickly and encouraging people to put their antes in. How annoying, right?!?!

Everyone else is very interested in buying rounds of beers. So I decided to just stay quiet and not be the 'party killer' - we are playing in an overflow - a small room at the back with just two extra tables, away from the prying eyes of the floorman most of the time.

To be fair though, a floorman did see the first chip go in the beer and found it hilarious! No action was taken apart from hearty laughter.

What % of players wash their hands after they go to the bathroom and would you want to drink that?

Ryan is spot on imo, yeah have a laugh at the first one but it should of been removed and warning given.  What was the outcome?  Did the winner of the pot get the beer?

In technical terms, he's stuck one stack over the line before declaring himself all in, so the first action is what counts: raise to whatever's in the drink/call.

If it's deemed to be a raise, if I were next to act, I would summon a valet while "tanking" and, on her return, push 6k + a pint of Leffe over the line to call beer boy's raise. Seems only fair.

The chips are an integral part of the game, you cant be putting them in drinks and leaving them in their. If they do go in drinks the chips need to be replaced before they get other chips sticky also.

Dropping them in their purposely and leaving them in their should always result in a penalty. With it sounding like abit of a party atmosphere you let the drink ban slide till next time, but player will be made aware of this.

It never occurred to me that this thread was a "serious" thread, or that the OP really wanted to know the answer, I took it as just a banter thread.

Certainly agree would not want to drink that drink also I like the idea of ordering a beer and making the table wait until it arrives before calling with it and £6k chips. Tempted to stick them in the drink as well as I don't drink.

Or I might go for a raise if there are other people still to act, so I think would have to order a curry and drop the chips in before pushing over the line.

Ok then serious question. If you are at this table in a 500 comp and everyone is ordering rounds of beers, putting chips in beer, multiple cheers and toasts and generally having a great time. Would you want to be the one who called the floor on these guys and instantly have the whole table hate you or would you keep quiet, enjoy a beer with the guys and try and take their chips in a friendly way?
