This could become a theme with questions you ask me Red but I don't know.

Can you not leave the screen on?  Could always get an in-car phone charger if battery power is an issue.

True, but the phone works hard, gets hot, I can't use it in my pocket via an earpiece while on my motorbike etc. It's just not an elegant solution.

Navfree is free, you could always give it a go to see if it suits your needs.

Waze is by far the best.  Real time traffic updates too.

I just checked this out.  The traffic info it provides is very impressive!  Also, if you check for the nearest petrol stations it gives you a list with the price of a gallon.

I can see why Google paid $1.3B to buy them.

Always gotta use common senses of what seems reasonable with any sat nav. I've used 3 different ones over the years and they all do that sometimes.

My Mrs's Tom Tom always seems to want to go around the M25 for some reason.  We went somewhere south of Guildford (from Bracknell, it's a straight line down) on Saturday but it took us M3, M25 then A3 for some reason.  Had I known the place I was going before that I'd have obv gone the quicker way but we were in a rush and I didn't get time to look.    -manpoints

It doesn't meet your original criteria of working offline though Lee.
