Cheers Tikay....

I found all that before.....but just couldn't work out how to just post pics 'saved' on pc onto here rather than from a URL? I may be missing something simple, but without a users guide....I am usually lost.

It is just a pic off facebook, which made me look and think of this thread. Just not sure how to get it onto here now after saving it earlier to pc.

right click the picture on facebook

click "copy image location"

click it into the insert image box that puts the image in boxes

Yes....the unfortunate sponsors name was the main point of pic, but it also illustrates other things . It shows how far snooker has come to me. No 20 B&H fags by a pint pot in a smoky venue. Nowadays.....none smoking.....water drinking.....with a must for sponsors logos. Prize money gone through the roof. Just felt that picture showed an average player 'at work' earning his crust while Ronnie (who I admire greatly as a player) was bemoaning his ordeal on having to play in a 'shopping mall'.

I'm not sure I ever recall seeing a black snooker player before either, although I'm not an avid snooker fan...

Lovely job Alan, you have EXACTLY got the idea. A photo like that says so many things, far better than you or I could write anything.

Poor old Ronnie, eh?

I like your description, Rory is a very good player that knows exactly where he stands in the pecking order. Would say he is in the category of players that are looking to make a living from the sport than having the need for trophies if you see what I mean. He's on the cusp of the top 48 but according to Wiki has only ever reached the last 16 of a ranking event. There would be a lot of golfers in that kind of bracket too where getting sponsors and keeping them is important.

With the greatest of respect to Rory he is playing snooker because he doesn't want to get a real job.  He should have quit the pro game a long time ago.  I bet he would have earned more in an average £25k a year job after expenses than he has playing snooker all these years.  he has £330k of event winnings in 24 years as a pro before tax (he has probably rarely exceeded his personal allowance in most years to even pay tax) and expenses.  I can't imagine he has made much out of sponsors either or exhibitions.  Maybe he plays big money games away from the tv events to make up his wages against rich mugs.  I have often wondered how he makes the game pay.

Tournament earnings might be a modest percentage of his income. Exhibitions, pool comps, money matches, sponsorship, coaching, county/league appearances and so on will all require him to be practicing regularly.

I'm just equating it to - for want of a better expression - your bogstandard chess international master or grandmaster.

No idea about his personal circumstances of course. Maybe he loves snooker more than he loves money. Good for him if so.
