Let me guess - the photo of all those tents?
Well as I understand it, there is a designated "season" for climbing Mt Everest, & the new season has just begun.
So all those tents are at Base Camp, in readiness for various assaults on Mt Everest.
In my mind it used to be that 1 or 2 chaps attempted it each year, just arrived with their sticks, warm jumpers & things, but apparently, it is a whole cottage industry now, & the locals sell souvenirs & all sorts.
These are mountain guides, hoping to get some business.

Here's a sign, in case they don't know the way, or can't see a 7 mile high mountain.

Souvenir, Sir? Fridge magnets, mouse mats, car stickers.

The chap on the left was a photographer at Andy Murray's wedding. Unfortunately, he became ill on Friday whilst taking photos of the wedding party, fell & hit his head on a gravestone, & died of a heart attack over the weekend.
It just struck me as extremes of happiness & sadness, all at once.

One of the fellas I was working with was at Everest base camp just last week. Wasn't climbing up it, just collecting the fridge magnet I guess.

I enjoy this thread, but I don't always know which news items some of the pictures refer too.
I'm never quite sure whether to put a link to every photo, Tom, or let people try & work it out.
Which of today's ones are not obvious to you? - I'll add a link.
It has been a rich day for interesting news items, yesterday nothing particularly caught my eye, today, loads of stuff.
Some of the stories I'm familiar with, and most of the others I can usually work out, but why would I bother if I don't know if I'm interested yet?
Anyway, I'm a busy man, I just don't have the time.

I found it intriguing before climbing kilimanjaro how the guides all gather and fight to be chosen to get a few days work up the mountain, I presumed there would be a set number of guides hired in advance but it's all sorted on the day. It got quite violent between them when I was there, but I suppose it could be the difference between them and their families getting fed or going hungry.
Good luck to those who attempt the summit, it's something I'd love to try but when you read that around 1 in 10 who attempt/ reach the summit die it kind of puts you off!

The "refugee season" in the Med has commenced. Many of them were drowned yesterday, many more are missing, presumed drowned.

Kate Winslet, at last night's premiere of "A Little Chaos".
It's a drama, depicting landscape gardeners vying to design a fountain for Louis XIV. A must watch.

A dog stunned judges in Britain's Got Talent, but it was later revealed that it had a fake muzzle, operated by remote control.

A spokesperson for the RCSPA said: “It is not clear if Miss Wendy was wearing any sort of muzzle or mask during the performance on Britain’s Got Talent, however the RSPCA would be very concerned if it became clear that she was caused distress at any point.
“We will be contacting the show to ascertain what methods were used and how they impacted on the dog.”
Jesus Christ! Any fool can see that the dog wasn't in the slightest distress. That RSPCA tosser wants sacking and his job giving to someone who understands animals.

For goodness' sake!
Amazing that we care about the dogs more than the poor saps who've been rounded up by the producers to be ridiculed on national TV.
Perhaps that's the British way.

Best not use blasphemy Tom, but it was a sombre link into the next Post.
This was reported in today's papers, the chap had apparently been found guilty of blasphemy.
