What do people think? Is it the end for Sponsorships?

Or are companies moving away from the LNP faces! Moving more towards the Internet whizz kids?

My deal renews on Feb 1st.

Not the end of sponsorships, just a different type of deal required IMO.

I personally think the individual sponsorship deal is near its end, and companies will move in the direction of TV tournys and adding money to prize pools. i.e William Hill Grand Prix.
They will gain more exposure that way. Although they might keep a very few of the famous faces on the books (Devilfish for eg)to give them some high profile.

If there becomes a players union of sorts, individual sponsorship can create problems with marketing and lead to boycots of certain players because of legal tie ups .
If the Companies are just adding money to tournaments everyone will be free to participate with no confict of intrests.

BTW Im sad to hear that about Aces, as IMO hes one of the hardest working pro's on tour.
Hope things work out for him.

Back when Prima first hooked up with the Hendon Mob, they were everywhere when it came to media exposure for poker, simply because they were the first. If you were a features editor or journalist looking to write a piece on poker, these were the first names that sprung to mind. Prima got a lot of business from people whose first exposure to poker was through a magazine article featuring THM.

Poker firms are now trying to firmly place poker as a young, cool thing (hence Virgin going for dpommo - an excellent choice). If Dave makes the final table at this years WSOP main event, he would go stratospheric in media coverage in this country. If another talented player did the same, but who didn't fit the 'young and cool' image, there wouldn't be the same media interest.

im still waiting confirmation of my upcoming deal... Pukka pies and Fray Bentos are currently involved in a bidding war, last i heard Mr Bentos had reacted angrily to suggestions by Pukka that steak puddings should be excluded from negotiations as Mr Bentos had the monopoly on them.

Mr Kipling is rumoured to have entered the race to sign me saying "Colchester Kev is a prime example of our target market, he sits on his arse in front of his pc for hours on end surrounded by foil trays ... we want a share of that action, why should the savoury pie makers have control. We intend to bring out Colchester Kev's sweet side and although his talent for poker is questionable, he is exceedingly talented at getting our individual apple pies out of their foil trays without spilling crumbs all over his keyboard"

I will keep you informed of any developments.

I'm still waiting news from McDonalds.  Fairs fair after all - I did much to keep them in business in recent years!
