About a week ago, the basement at the gym I train at flooded. They took up all the rubber flooring so they could identify the cause and dry it up. I went in last night and it looked dry enough for the flooring hadn't been put back. Somebody who was working on the situation walked in (let's call him A) and he was greeted by somebody training at the gym (let's call him B.) A and B exchange a few pleasantries, before B says to A, "mate, this floor's been up for ages." A then responds and says, "Yeh I think it looks better like that so I'm just going to leave it forever." Both parties have a chuckle and A leaves the room.
I was just wondering if I should report A to the manager and get him fired?

Do you care that the floor is up? If so complain to the manager or someone higher up, and suggest that you suspect that the maximum effort may not be being made in replacing it. If you don't care, forget about it.
(not sure whether you are really A, B or the protagonist though)

lol what? I was just a guy in the room. I don't fit floors nor do I have any friends in the gym, hard as I have tried! They all like ice cream and not moving around much! Don't really care that the floor is up, like I can still workout safely and effeciently, etc. Just seems like a really unprofessional thing to say.

Why do you want to get someone fired? How do you know they weren't joking? You said yourself they had a chuckle. I don't see how this is gross misconduct. Perhaps it takes more than a week for a floor to dry out completely.

It's hardly gross misconduct though, even if you played the manager a tape recording of the conversation I wouldn't expect him to be sacked.

What has A done wrong? He has come into the gym to assess the flooring after the flood. Assume he is an expert of sorts being paid by the gym to sort out the flooring problem and he thinks the floor is better without the rubber. Why is that gross misconduct? Sounds like he is just doing his job to me unless it is a H&S issue re the rubber floor.

I'm not one for jumping on band wagons, but I can't believe that you would even consider for a moment trying to get someone fired for making an off the cuff unprofessional comment.
Such a vindictive attitude, especially as it doesn't concern or affect you and you don't even know if he was joking.
If you were to go by those standards, 90% of the UK workforce would get fired tomorrow.

Strange comment from A....was he sober?
Maybe he'd just had a night on the tiles?
