The letters on my laptop keyboard are almost worn away, so I thought I would have a go at touch-typing to see if I could manage when they are gone all together.

Starting with one index finger on shift, the other on the letter O and looking at the screen only, this is my attempt at typing that well known phrase, 'One of my sausages is missing'.

One od mhy siaheve3s is nuwwibher.

Can you do better?

Yes (but I can't strip down a 1974 Cortina and build it back up..)

Left hand on ASDF and right hand on HJKL to start with.  I'm sure there will be some freeware to teach you to touch type, I taught myself at college, it really doesn't take too long to get to the stage where you aren't even thinking about letters, your fingers just go there.

I think my of the younger generation will be able to do it we have grown up typing nowadays. We have a girl who was professionally a "typist" when we first employed her about 15 years ago. It wasn't till about 5 years after that I first touched a keyboard. She can spell better than me but I think I'm probably a few words a minute faster than her now touch typing and I've never been taught just learnt after consistent use

I have never been able master touch typing, but can still type quickly when doing a lot of typing on a regular basis.

Re: the spelling Tom, for touch typing the spelling isn't that important. You get typed out what you need and then just spell check at the end.

Yeah I always touch type. I only ever "sometimes" look at the keyboard for the first letter and go from there. I don't really have my fingers in a uniform manner, they are kinda all over the place. I also don't user my ring or pinky.

Touch typing with eyes closed:

One of my sausages are missing.

I wonder what Tony would score with his one finger left handed keyboard turned sideways method?

Your score: 307 CPM (that is 61 WPM)

In reality, you typed 313 CPM, but you made 1 mistake (out of 61 words), which was not counted in the corrected scores.

Your mistake was:

Instead of "vowel", you typed "vorel".
