This is level 1 of a deep stacks tourney on stars (5000 starting chips and 30 minute levels)
With 3 callers of my preflop raise from the button, with me having played very few hands, I am not liking the texture of this flop too much. However, I would welcome opinions as to whether you think I missed out on money on the flop and turn here. I definitely think I missed a chance to value bet the river, fearing JQ J9 or Q9.

Would you take the lead earlier in the betting?

Yes, I'd be raising that draw heavy flop.

Guy that's calling that big a raise with KQo would probably pay you off too.
Last thing you want to do on the flop is let cvwarner in too.
Raise to isolate.

I can see why you played it the way you did. On the flop, you are setting a trap to get more money in on the turn and river.
When he bets out so big on the turn you are a bit worried and fear a set/ 2 pair so u flat call.

He checks the river, i think a value bet is in order here as he would likely value bet a big hand himself and a lot of worse hands will call a bet on the river.

Personally i would riase the flop on a dangeorus board as I would like to find out early how strong my opponents hand was. If he flat calls you are almsot certainly ahead given the draw intensive nature of the baord and the likelihood he would reraise with a big hand to protect agaisnt these draws.

Then you can control the betting on the turn and river.

I don't think the check on the river is terrible as it is still possible he has KTd but I would bet 600-800 , enough to get away if he does put in a big check riase as this is likely to have you beat but small enough that he will pay you off with jsut one pair.

Yep..I don't like the flop at all, I'm raising him on this flop and trying to lose him on the turn if he called my raise on the flop.

He could be 1 card from the str8 or flush or 2 pair, and you let him set the tempo to hit..his check on the river tells me he missed so a value bet there was missed. But i don't think i would have let it get to that point myself.

Not a good flop to slow play your hand

Completely agree Bundle. Wasn't slowplaying or trapping, just fearful, mainly of JQ which bets exactly same. When str8 card comes on the end, JQ might check, prepared to call any reasonable bet. The only way to resolve this is to raise on flop. My reason for not was simply not wanting to get too deeply involved on such a dangerous board so early in such a long tourney. But with hindsight I don't mind the play too much if I value bet the river. Otherwise I must raise on the flop.

Most players ive come across online would check the flop if they had two pair(not saying this is correct but they normally do). So i wouldnt be too worried about QJ or a set.
