It's a great idea by Emirates. They want to tap into the English football market and tell football fans about their brand. This is their first foray into English football, isn't it? Don't think I've heard of them before.

I never understand what peoples issues are with these things. It will always be known as the fa cup to every football fan. Who cares who sponsors it or if it is sposnored or not. It has been sponsored for years effectively anyway by eon and Budweiser just in a slightly different worded manner. I have never heard anyone call the fa cup anything other than exactly what it is, the fa cup, in these years. I can't see that changing by putting the sponsors name in front of fa cup rather than after. I just wish the £10m would all go into grass roots football rather than paying off the banks who built Wembley.

Maybe it reflects Arsenal's utter dominance of the prestigious FA Cup?

Agree totally with the Arbster.
The same way I don't see the problem with renaming Hull, because it doesn't matter what the "official" name is - Hull City will always be Hull City if everyone calls them that.
Are Bournemouth still officially called "AFC Bournemouth"?

It annoys me somewhat that Royal Ascot won't let their races be sponsored.
Some tracks are in sever financial trouble and the money ploughed into keeping Royal Ascot sponsor free could be used to save them.
I have no idea who currently sponsors the Derby. the King George or The Champion Chase for example.

Investec/Stan James/Sporting bet i think. I haven't googled. I can't say i have ever noticed Royal Ascot is sponsor free.

Investec is almost definitely right, but no idea who they are or what they are trying to flog.
I don't think
is right. They sponsor the Champion Hurdle don't they? I'd love to buy what they are they selling, but they won't let me.
Sportingbet used to sponsor the Champion Chase, but Ithought they gave up a couple of years ago. Might be wrong though.
Googling now.

1. Investec
2. Betway
3. William Hill
If two people who gamble as much as Mark and I do couldn't correctly name these 3 sponsors (Arb got one tbf) I have a feeling they are wasting their money.

agree. I have never understood why betting firms pump so much cash into sponsoring actual races. IMO the only real benefit comes from 10-20 year long sponsorship so the race is known as 'your' race. ie coral cup, whitbread, henessey, stella artois tennis etc etc. Anything less than 10 years to me seems a total waste of money. The real value comes from the long term sponsorships when the race/event is actually known by the sponsors name rather than the race name and when a new sposnor comes in they still refer to the race/event by the old sponsors name.
The value of the exposure your brand gets in these later years is worth far more imo than each year in the early days of the deal and the double whammy here is the firm will probably get a cheaper deal from the race course in the later years because of their loyalty over the previous 10 years. Always find it amazing why firms build up their image then pull the plug on an event once they have overpaid in the early years and done all the ground work.

Agree somewhat.
But even then is it worth the money?
I know the Queens Club tournament is called the Stella, but it definitely doesn't inspire to me buy a pint of their product.
If they are sponsoring an event to give clients and staff a jolly up once a year - fair enough. If they are trying to sell more of their product it must be the biggest waste of advertising cash possible.

Without knowing i would imagine the clue is in the name. They must be an investment firm/hedge fund or something similar?
