Just heard that the Grosvenor Sandcastle had a significant fire last night. They evacuated and apparently it was visible from outside the building.

I saw this too, shame as they have only just spent cash on a refit.
Hope it's not too bad Yogi.

The fire alarm system is linked to the Swimming Pool complex adjoining, so the fire could have been next door but they would still have to evacuate the casino.

Apparently not.
An eyewitness reports that after a panic filled evacuation, smoke was seen billowing inside the reception and the plasma screen above the casino was very much "on fire" with sparks etc flying everywhere.

Here's hoping they got it oot before too much damage was done.

It is a shame - after all, if the Fire Brigade puts the fire out by squirting water on it, it'll just wash the Sandcastle away...

Rumours that Howard Plant had just had aces cracked and it was the steam that set the alarm off are unconfirmed

Heard of a few desperate gamblers faking heart attacks in tough spots, but never fire alarms.

Oh dear, this is awful news for Yogi & Co, I do hope it's not too serious, & nobody was hurt.

Oir wishes for a speedy return to normality - such as you can have normality in Lancashire - go to Yogi & Grosvenor Blackpool.

  careful....................

i remember not so long ago playing in a tournament there (i think it may have be a £30 satellite for the £1000 main event) and the fire alarm started going off and no-one seemed to know what to do, then after a few minutes it would stop and we would carry on with the cards then off it went again. After about 15 minutes of getting up to go out then sitting down again we just carried on playing cards til they turned it off!!

Hi Guys.

The Fire last night was the front Neon Plasma Screen thing above the front door. Unfortunately when they evacuated everyone left by the front door, so ran out under the blazing screens.

No casulties, and as it was at the front of the building the card room was unscathed. The casino didnt re-open last night due to smoke in Reception but is open for business now.

When I left Howard Plant's Skoda was right outside the door, and he had to run to move it, to the shouts of RUN HOWARD RUN. Forrest Gump Style.

That would have been a sight to see.

There are pictures I will try to get on later.

Yogi.

Obviously the thought of the Jocks invading was too much for some people. Bit of an extreme reaction though Smiley

seriously, hope everything is ok Yogi & Co.
