I've given up playing poker and am now a professional railer!

I had my tablet railside and so we had the stream on that for any interesting hands or comments.  A few small things came up during the time which were relayed to Barney, mainly the commentators seemed to be funking for him as he was the only guy trying to make something happen of the three.

(not a criticism of you, more a comment on the ethics of streams/rails/sharing info etc)

do we think that railers being allowed to view the stream and relay stuff to the players is really appropriate?

i know the 30 minute delay helps but its short enough that reads, hand info etc can be passed on and really affect gameflow, the way the tournament plays out

shouldn't anyone in the rail area be stopped from viewing the stream as we do at home, mobile phones off players for duration of the final too etc etc?

It's definitely worth looking at, in this instance a few things were passed onto him that may have helped him, we hope....

Today each of the three players had someone watching, at the rail, conveying information - does that make it fair?

i don't like it but if i was ever there (lol) i'd be at a definite disadvantage if i didn't have spotters on the stream relaying stuff to me for me, i think

can't think that this was the intention of the WSOP. the stream is there as a promotional tool (cross markets products) for people not there, not to allow players to have aids outside what they gather themselves at the table..

might as well give them HUD googles too...

You joke but we all know it's only a matter of a year of two until someone is accused of using a live hud assisting their play.

Yes I'm watching on the 'live' video stream.  Last night I was watching the affable Sam Ravazi get allin in a great spot but learned his unfortunate fate from someone posting his demise on the rail before all the tanking had finished on the stream.

Maybe don't look at the rail while watching the stream?

Well, I guess I can't then. Which is a shame because I thought this was a 'funk for Barny' thread to discuss it? But how can people if the results are posted way before people read/watch it for themselves?

Does knowing the result really matter?

Do you watch Match of the Day?

Sometimes I watch MOTD without knowing an of the results. It's incredible.

In 1975 that was possible.

In 2015 I can scarcely believe you.

How does anyone avoid the Premier League results for 6 hours? Haven't you got bets on?

Never punt, except one occasion when pizzled and Sicilian came up to visit me and they made me do an acca. It lost.

Avoiding the results is easy when you don't support a prem team. Doubt I've missed a Celtic score by more than 20 mins for a long long time.

Lee Davy, on Calvyn Ayre, wrote a great piece about this, & called it right, imo.

It's here.....

Do we all admire Barny Boatman? Of course we do, he's barely got an enemy in poker. Should we try give him a potentially unfair advantage over others, or they against him? Of course not.

Online poker on many sites is being destroyed by artificial aids which disadvantages 90% of the player base, the recreational players, the guys who pay the pros wages. Be a terrible shame if we allowed it to spread to Live poker.

I remember objecting to this very thing on a thread some time ago regarding DTD FT streams. Unsurprisingly enough all you guys thought they were a wicked idea and good for publicity. However the reality is they blatantly corrupt the purity of the game.

Not sure the live HUD bit is much of an advantage.  I quite like playing poker with people that don't pay attention to what is happening in pots that don't involve them.

the DTD practice is different. there you cannot view the live stream (on whatever delay) on the premises unless you are in the commentary booth which is in a locked office

phones and tablets are also taken off players and bagged during a streamed final

of course someone watching at home can text or call someone on the rail who can then relay information in breaks, I accept, and it is possibly semantics to draw a distinction but having someone on a rail watching the stream on their IPad, and a player can walk over mid-play when not in a hand and discuss stream is much less acceptable imo

of course these allowing these streams is a balance between operator/venue wanting publicity and promotion and on the other hand integrity of the game

I was surprised the WSOP allowed streams to be viewed on the rail hole cards included...an IP block so the stream can't be viewed on premises allows it be rowed back towards a final table where that balance is more acceptable
