Perhaps we need two threads: "The funk for Barny Boatman (real time)" and "The funk for Barny Boatman (30 mins delay)". Smiley

This is the first time I've followed an event on wsop.com and their updates are pants.

How difficult is it to update the chips regularly when they are playing 3 handed?

Pokernews used to do it every hand at the final table IIRC

Because over the last few years, the updaters have had access to a screen that shows all the info such as chip counts etc for the railers. This year, someone fucked up and in an event, the hole cards were visible. The Nevada Gaming Control now only allows the flop cam to be seen in the Amazon Room so our updaters dont have access to that info any more.

Updaters are also not allowed within the camera range, we have to stand behind the TD - and trust me, it is impossible to count chips accurately from 20 yards away. We have to rely on all in confrontations where the staff announce the all in bet...and that doesnt always happen. On top of that, we're expected to do hand-for-hand coverage so naturally a team of two will concentrate on action, not chip counts.

Apologies if people think I'm out of line.

I don't think anyone would think that you are out of line.
It's really interesting to learn how it works.

Thanks for the explanation.

No idea why the wsop would change a tried and tested formula (even if the binned Pokernews, they could have kept the same reporting system)

Yes I'm watching on the 'live' video stream.  Last night I was watching the affable Sam Ravazi get allin in a great spot but learned his unfortunate fate from someone posting his demise on the rail before all the tanking had finished on the stream.

They didnt have a choice. The Nevads Gaming Control Board specifically banned the screens because the hole cards were shown accidentally once. Even people railing can only see a flop cam, they have no idea of stacks etc.

Rather not see the hole cards, and know the chip stacks.

Maybe don't look at the rail while watching the stream?
