Evening Blonde!

I'm down visiting London Friday 7th- Monday 10th August, staying at Epsom. Any recommendations for a decent poker venue near by there for either Friday or Sat night?

I might also be going down on Wed the 5th-7th before going to Epsom. If I was, what is the best place for poker/ area to stay in?

And any ideas for reasonable accommodation for the 5th -7th?

Mucho appreciato!

There's a live MTT on @ Aspers Stratford the weekend before, £200 buyin 100k gtee, might go down for this and just stay in London till Friday 7th before going up to Epsom.

I don't know London at all, any1 got any ideas of decent, reasonable priced accommodation, that's quite central?

Epsom is about 45 minutes west of london, train out of waterloo

affluent town in surrey

you aren't getting back there after about midnight unless you are in a car

just check the hotel booking sites within your budget

Aspers is in East London, next to the Olympic park, public transport is OK but it can be a bit of a pain to get to and away from especially late at night.  So i would try and get a hotel locally - there is a holiday inn or similar really close.

The MTT is structured so that you can enter each of three flights and add your stacks together (don't remember if there is re-entry into each flight) - I would say most people enter two or more flights.  There are satellites on partypoker which end on 16 July.

I guess you could also consider playing the DTD/partypoker deepstack at Nottingham which is the same weekend - although it has not been decided whether this will be a two or three day event.

Over the 7-10 August weekend you could get to The Poker Room (Grosvenor casino - has its own website) loads of cash games and there will be tournaments afternoon and evening and if you do a late session should be able to get public transport early in the morning back to Epsom.

Spoke to the Vic and Aspers about cash games, they both said they have over 10 tables running in the evenings, sounds like those 2 are the biggest for poker in London.

Yeah, finding decent poker isn't the issue - it's finding somewhere to stay that doesn't eat up all your money that's the challenge.

If you are looking to play cash you might as well find a hotel first that's good value and then you can just go to the casino that is closest.

On any day Aspers will have 5+ £1/£1 and most probably at least 1 £1/£2 and either a £1/£3 or £2/£5. Empire and Hippo  will have 6+ £1/£2 and 50% likely a £1/3 or £2/5. Vic will have numerous tables of everything in both Hold Em to Omaha from £1/£1 to at least £5/£10. Although the £5/£10 may only get 1 table.

There are plenty of cheapish hotels around Aspers in Startford.  There is a premier Inn and Travelodge that are fine and the holiday inn is nicer but more expensive.

Big Slick in Purley is doable from Epsom.  A taxi shouldn't be an issue, but any games are likely to be small.  It is a long time since I have played there, but it used to be OK.

Epsom itself is a nice place. If you at the holiday inn express, it is an easy walk out to the Derby Course.  It is a nice place for a morning walk, and you'll see a few horses up on the downs.   The hotel itself is one of the better holiday inn expresses too.  I have stayed there a few times.  Getting into town should be easy enough in the daytime.  Getting out at Waterloo and walking down the southbank on a sunny day by the Thames is one of my favourite things about London.

Am gone at the game now Winamax has gone.  Never made much on Stars and somehow have got worse.  Think I need a retrain in hold'em.

i played occassionally at a place in kingston that recently closed down, they have moved to the the extremely exotic sounding leatherhead british legion club. just round corner from epsom. they have not got advanced schedule, but this weekend have a 3k gtd mtt for £50. when in kingston they had a monthly £100 tournament that was 50k gtd or possibly 100k i cant remember. i am pretty sure the people behind it are the lot from big slick but not 100% on that.

always cash games at previous place, would surprise me if thats no longer the case.

try info@king-of-clubs.co.uk or call the club on 07450981716 or 07530685096

Pollards Hill Poker Club have taken over the old Royal Surrey in Morden which is ~5.7 miles from Epsom according to Google Maps.

I've played there a number of times, it's dealer dealt and they'll have tournaments on the Friday (£40) and Saturday (£20 max 2-reubys). Cash games tend to be 50p/£1 in terms of size. I imagine you'll probably need to become a member to play there though, which is probably £5 or so.

They've got a FB page and a website so just google 'Pollards Hill Poker Club' if you want to investigate further.
