There will definitely be a second instalment, with a slight change. I'll give it a few days and throw up the interest thread.

I'm so impressed with those 2 guys.

If you asked me how many bus stops in London, or the population of some town in the north east, I could only make a pure guess.

That's actually what they are, guesses. Or, if you like, Fermi estimatations:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fermi_problem

First step (at least for me!) is work out what it definitely can't be more than. And then what it definitely can't be less than.

For example in Middlesbrough question, I knew it had to be more than Durham which has about 50k and definitely less than Newcastle which has about 200k. So then you picture the cities and try and place Boro somewhere on a bounded number line.

i live in middlesbrough and i wouldn't have said over 100k.

brilliant quiz scotty. definitely in for the next one

tie break was interesting

i fermi'ed most but on this one i remembered seeing the riverside full for a game once (an england international, maybe) and the commentator said and i paraphrase "the riverside is full and its a quarter of middlesbrough's population"

guess riverside holds 30,000, so guess 120,000

the toughest was the bus stops, a tough one to guess. amazed i was only 5,000 away

everest is 29+ so 29+ 27+ 27+ makes 85,000 etc etc

i'll save scotty the eccles cake recipes with raisins and fruit peel in :-)

Every interception Tony Romo throws is punishment for that.

Final was incred, though Adam was such a dunce, only getting 25.

Has Scotty got any imaginative ideas to prevent the next one being a foregone (threeway?) conclusion?

I thought having a 'play or pass' style thing might work. Like say I draw Tighty round one. He knows I like history as specialist subject, so he offers me Celebs. But I can play it or pass it, and if I pass, Tighty has Celebs and I have whatever.

To make it work it'd have to be more like split or steal on golden balls where if we both pass we swap suggestions - so in effect pick our own categories like before, if we both play each other's suggestions it's fine and if one steals/passes and the other splits/plays the stealer gets their own category of choice but the 'splitter' is fucked.

Or something like that.

Anyway, sure Scotty has a million cool ideas and doesn't need my rambling.
