Is anyone good at using LinkedIn?  I'm not a big social media user but I thought I'd approach event organisers to try and get some more business but I can only use the connect button (rather than message them as I'm not a premium user) and if I choose the "I don't know them" option, it doesn't let me contact them.  I always assumed LinkedIn was good for making new contacts but if I can only connect with people I know it's not so helpful.

Are you not supposed to network with strangers or is there a way to do it ?

You can send an invitation to someone to connect and if they accept, then you can message them.
