GUKPT hand
«
on:
November 30, 2015, 10:26:35 PM »
So I have played 58 minutes of the first level of day 2 of the GUKPT Grand Final.
I started the day with 83k. I have moved onto 97k. The average is about 70k.
Blinds are 1k-2k/100.
I open in middle position for 4500 with AT offsuit.
The bb, with roughly the same stack calls me.
Flop comes AJ3 with J3 of clubs.
He checks, I bet 6200, he calls. Standard so far.
The turn card comes the queen of clubs. (Making 3 clubs on board)
Now he leads out for 6200. I have the ten of clubs.
We do what?
(Part 2 of this hand to follow)

Pretty interesting spot - could make a case for him just having it and trying to induce, possibly a blocker with a range of hands where he is not quite sure where he is - some that already beat you
In game I think I almost certainly call, might raise but the more I look at it, and without trying any numbers, the more I think folding is pretty good.

The sizing really threw me.
I felt in game his most likely hand was the bare ace of clubs and he was trying to scare me into giving him a cheap river card if I was holding better than him.

My initial thoughts on this are clouded by reading your staking thread. So not sure if I really think this or just making it up.
As he has copied your previous bet I would be thinking possibly 2 thoughts here. 1, he has it and as a value bet he has mimicked your last bet simply because he has it and is a tad excited and couldn't think quick enough to size it correctly. (this has happened to me before). Or 2, he's holding some ridiculous K10 hand that got there and is scared of your possible flush/draw. What do you really think you are beating?

As I said, I felt like his most likely hand was the ace of clubs with a weaker kicker than me. I should be raising if this is his hand surely.
Other possible hands, turned two pair, turned straight, turned small flush, the other non club ace - but I have far too much equity to fold against these.
Only hand I want to fold against is a made flush bigger than ten high.

What does your opponent look like?
Late 30s, early 40s. English.
Never seen him before but handled his chips confidently and wore headphones.

I'd c-bet smaller on the flop.
I'd always call now and re-asses river.

yeh, easy call now. raising is way too thin, i think folding out of the question too.
river? he checks, we bet 1/4 pot and he jams? call!

23.7k pot, he bets 6200? 5/1 with a decent made hand and a decent draw?
Keep this one simple imo, throw the chips in...
IDK if you have the best hand thought, probbbbbbbaly not

So yes, I called fairly quickly.
Folding wasn't on my mind, and to be honest I only considered raising as an option after the hand awas over.
Now the river comes the king of spades. Giving me a straight.
The action in the hand had been very brisk in the hand up until this point. But now he wants to dwell up massively.
There's roughly 30k in the pot and the villian eventually decides on a bet of 28k.
We?

Interesting spot. I think when he leads turn 6k into 23k villain will rarely have a small flush, a straight or 2 pair. Any of these hands which are hugely vulnerable to any hand with a high club in (like yours) would surely lead for a larger size? So I think villain is weighted towards Acx, Kxcc. I guess there is some twisted logic for villain leading small with the weaker hands hoping to keep the pot small, scared of facing a big bet, but less likely if villain is good as I feel like this sizing opens himself up to being put in a tough spot by some other parts of your range that aren't as strong as ATc and the top of your range.
River is gross, I don't think you often see randoms potting rivers as a bluff in live comps, doesn't seem likely a random picks pot at a sizing with a straight either, as most will still be wary of the flush. So i think you'll get shown Kxcc a lot, a low flush/straight sometimes. Random bluff rarely. I fold.
(now going to check out the staking thread for results!)
