Can I cancel gym contract?

On Friday, the gym part of my health club is closing down for a week. As I only really use the gym side of it, do you think I can cancel my direct debit/contract on the grounds they've not provided the gym I pay for? Not that bothered if I have to see it out(6 months into a years contract) but I'd prefer to go back to my old gym. Was tempted to cancel anyway and see what happens but I think this closure gives me an angle out. Any thoughts?

Wouldn't use the gym out of action for a week as the reason to cancel a 6 month contract. The manager will reject that out of hand. Just write to them saying you're moving to Australia, how gutted your are, thanks for the good times, exceptional health club and the manager will go np.

Ex Health Club owner here, They won't come after you if u cxl ur Direct Debit, they should extend your contract plus one week as a gesture, Depending if its a National Chain.
