Fiddling while Rome burns springs to mind .

As Cuomo stated ... you have to get ahead of the curve.

At this present moment in time I would take Joe Exotic over Trump.

I’m not really political , I just want governments , politicians and big business
to resolve the enormous wealth inequality in society .

The gap is as huge as it’s ever been and quoting job numbers , gdp and
Wall Street numbers are complete red herrings .

The Donald has got me fired up tonight  Grin

The eight governors who have NOT issued stay-at-home orders

Arkansas—Asa Hutchinson (R)
Iowa—Kim Reynolds (R)
Nebraska—Pete Ricketts (R)
North Dakota—Doug Burgum (R)
South Dakota—Kristi Noem (R)
South Carolina—Henry McMaster (R)
Utah—Gary Herbert (R)
Wyoming—Mark Gordon (R)

Are they waiting for Christmas ?

No 5G masts in those states, obv.

Sanders and Warren would be mainstream here - moderate left.

Lots over there think that The Squad (AOC, Omar, Tlaib & Pressley) are extreme but again, here they wouldn't be.

Some of the politicians'  teams are a bit more left than them, eg Bernie's co-Chairman Nina Turner. AOC had a couple of very progressive voices on her team, but has now separated from them, and has become much less radical in recent times.

Who are the loudest left-wing media types - Cenk Uyger, Krystal Ball? Again, hardly extremists.

I can't think of any well-known extreme left-wingers who are active at national level, unless you're thinking of those outside the the system, like BLM or Antifa.

To normal people I agree but to Trump supporters Bernie and Warren are portrayed as extreme left.

But to be honest I don’t really get any of these labels on politicians .

Doesn’t matter a jot to me.

U can be radical left on one subject and a conservative isolationist on another.

Not all Republican Governors have sat on their hands. Governor Mike DeWine of Ohio is an old-fashioned low-tech mumbler, as far from Cuomo's polished performances as you could get, but he has been one of the quickest to react, repeatedly being ahead of the curve in taking actions subsequently taken in other States days or even weeks later.

On 3 March, when the State had no cases, he took the heat of closing a major event that brought 22,000 competitors and 60,000 spectators to Ohio last year, injecting over $50m into Ohio’s economy, which even the Washington Post called 'radical'. He was first to close the schools and equal-first to close bars and restaurants, weeks ahead of other some States (a week before the UK in both cases). Other businesses were closed from 18 March and those allowed to remain open had to take their employees' temperatures daily before they entered the business, and send home any found to be ill. A stay-at-home order came into effect on 23 March.

He and his Health Director, Amy Acton, have emerged as an odd double-act. For some reason, she always wears a lab coat - so we know she's a doctor, I suppose. Their straightforward presentations have gone down well for their apparent honesty and lack of glamour.

This was 15 March, when others were still denying what they were already saying (and had been saying before this).

I should have clarified who I was talking about earlier, it wasn't politicians.

Just know nothings like me that make lots of noise.

MintTrav is the TK and Red Dog on this thread.

His thoughts are well constructed and beautifully put together in a coherent
factual thread.

In alphabet terms it would read pretty much in line A through to Z.

Now my thoughts and rants , in alphabet terms would read something like...

A, d , o , n ,a , l ,d .. t , r , u , m , p ,  i , s ,  a .. d , i , c , k .

Just a random set of letters  Grin

Speaking of AOC

We watched Knock down the House yesterday on Netflix

It follows a few women trying to get elected.

It's not too deep, as in there's not much analysis, it primarily just follows them around and they explain a few thiings along the way.

It's an entertaining style of film making though and worth watching.

The biggest insight in it is really showing further examples of just how undemocratic the US is.

I don’t see it the way you described bookie. I really appreciate when others join in. It doesn’t matter if they’re not nerds about it, though you clearly do take an active interest. I’ve said before that I would have packed this in long ago if no-one else was joining in, so I’m glad to see your posts, and the others who drop in from time to time.

Thanks, looks like a good watch. Just watched a few clips and learned some things just from them.

Don't pack it in Mint. If it wasn't for you my involvement in American politics would be limited to flicking baked beans out of my pubes at the telly when Trump is on.

Very wise. Dr Amy would agree:

She has become quite a cult in Ohio, with both adults and children who want to like her:

Watching Trumps press conference live for the first time.

So odd, just rambling away, he's got a script but it sounds like he's making it up as he goes along - perhaps he's just ad libbing a lot but even the meat of it surely can't be written by a professional
