So, bit of advice please....

I moved house back in October leaving behind my ADT monitored alarm service.

The new house has an extensive array of sensors, but the main system box looks very dated (you have to use a key to arm it)

As I am a little paranoid about home security I need to get something new installed but I am not sure what?

I found ADT pretty poor so not sure if I want to go that route again. They covered burglar & fire alarm.
I think the ADT box outside is a good deterrent, but when it came to alarms going off they were happy to ring the phones to get a key holder but even if no one responded nothing seemed to happen..... until I moved out and they sent 3 fire engines round because the turned the power off!

So I want something good, that has an effective response, probably a security firm rather than the police from what I have been reading.

So

How do you feel about home security?
What do you have at home?
Would you recommend it?

If you are happy with the sensors then get a local alarm firm to update the central control box. I did just that 8 years ago.

I would agree, we use local alarm firms in any cases we can they seem to "care" more.

I've had an alarm for 6 years and never switched it on. Not sure why but I've never had any problems.......

Other than a mattress stuffed full of cash I don't have a single relatively easily carried possession worth > ~ £300 in the house. Most expensive stuff is things like washing machine, kitchen fittings, beds, sofas, other furniture.

Although I've been burgled twice (when absent) I don't really give a seconds thought to home security - perhaps if I owned lots of expensive small stuff or I'd been in when the burglaries happened or I wasn't insured then perhaps it might resonate more with me.
