I've been badgering my old man about presents for ages, and this morning he asked about something for books.

I said he could have my iPad, and I'd get him a present, but then remembered seeing something about Kindles on here.

Are Kindles still the best things for reading books when on holiday, or is there some new spangly bit of kit on the market?

The e ink is what makes kindle good - if it's only going to be for reading than a backlit display is a terrible idea. I haven't used any of the e-book readers but if the other functionality isn't needed then definitely an ebook reader rather than a tablet.

I prefer my Kindle for reading on especially on holiday as on the kindle the sun does not affect reading where as on my tablet regardless of which screen I tried it never seemed as good as the kindle for outdoor reading.

Kindle is great for reading, much easier than on a tablet.

He'll only ever be reading, so Kindle it is.

Thanks chaps.

I'll whack my iPad on ebay, and get myself a new one for Xmas Smiley

He just wants it to read by the pool this summer, so the Kindle is a deffo winner.
