ok i have a problem
when i first started playing poker i put money aside from my savings as a bankroll this was purely as a bankroll and not to be touched for anything else when i decided to play round the country i put some more money in so that i could play bigger games, i also needed a traveling fund to pay for expenses such as flights, hotels, taxis and meals i am no snob and i am a working class lad who used to be in the army but i prefer not to scrimp on travel hotels and meals as i find i get what i pay for and like a little comfort.
here the problem lies, i decided that each month money would go into both my travel fund and my bankroll so that i can afford to keep traveling and playing and not have to rely on being a profitable player (i play as a hobby, not to make money) the money was split 50/50
as luck would have it i wasnt losing money at the poker and overall my live play is only slightly down and my bankroll is infact bigger than it started due to me adding money to it each month so i started splitting the money 75/25 in favour of traveling expenses,
now i dont want to be playing bigger comps as my roll wont cover them long term, but i want to be able to travel more to play more smaller events which my roll can cover, should i take money from my roll to help pay for traveling, or stop funding my roll each month and if i run out tough, or combine my roll with my travel costs and keep them in 1 account
anyone views welcome but if you say become a good player and win enough to cover buy ins and travel it wont happen as it would need a ROI of about 110% long term

Move from the @rse end of the united kingdom into civilization ... you would save shedloads not an option as if i moved into a populated area of the UK my living expenses would mean either getting a 9-5 job or giving up poker

Personally I would have the one "poker bankroll". It's just clearer and easier to identify what you can afford.

That's how most people manage it.

as an example the last time i went to the vic i played in a £750 event travel expnses where
flights £195 return hotel 2 nights £400 (marriot could save £160 at the metropole) taxis £110 carparking £30 food £150 drinks £50
if i was to have a combined bankroll then my bankroll would not be big enough to play this sort of event infact any event over £200 would become a £1000 event and at the top end of the events i could afford by proper bankroll management this would seriously limit the events on the calendar i could play as there isnt much on offer freezeout for under £300
and playing in smaller event would mean that my bankroll would soon be decimated as the ROI i need would soon amount to around 300% if i was to cover travel costs and bankroll

Seems to me Ironside, That you are miles ahead of many players, with separate accounts for buy ins and travel, so I don’t think you will have much trouble in accomplishing your goals..
If I was in your position I would be looking at how many tournaments am I likely to play, what’s the average buy in. and likewise with the travel where do I intend to go to play this year and what will I need. Treat it like a business proposal to make this happen and I think it will tell you where the best place to put your money is

Just one thing...
How would your living expenses become to high if you move?
With all the money you would save on flights etc, surely that would cover it!
Room in Colchester i heard!

the cost of renting or buying a house down there would be sky high and would cost more than the cost of my present rent, food and problery utillities (minus phone as this is sky high)
this would save me in flights and hotels but proberly cost me more in health

Obviously it's nice to cover costs but as you are a "social player" by your own admission, one bankroll ought to do it. Surely if you combine the bankrolls you will still have the same revenue to cover the same sized events?
