This is an area that fascinates me and I have been reading up quite a bit on NLP, and I'm not sure if it's just more hocus pocus or worthwhile exploring further.

I'm intrigued by the human mind.  But this doesn't seem to be as mainstream as I would expect.

Whenever I try to indulge people they tend to think it's garbage.  I was reading an e-book a few days and there was a link in that to the Behavioural Insights Team who were commissioned by the Tory Govt.   I have now gone and ordered a book from Amazon called Inside The Nudge Unit.

Is this really any different from the Ministry of Information?

I have a friend, who used NLP as an alternative therapy he keeps telling me he'll send me some DVD's on it but it never materialises,  and he swears by it.

If anyone out there has any experience of this subject please share.  I'm interested to hear of bad and good.

It is a useful aide for any relationship or interaction with other humans. There's an eternity-full of reading material claiming to be good NLP but the basics and fundamentals are really worth investing in, if it's a topic that interests you.

It's certainly something I turn to in the professional, personal and poker parts of my life. We do a lot of it naturally, but understanding needs, motivations and what makes people tick is helpful and it has enabled me to recognise things in others and myself.

I've not done the Master Jedi courses or any of that, but I've worked with people who have and it's frighteningly potent stuff when applied well.

If you aren't interested in it, you'll hate it and it will be another one of those courses where you think people are drawing circles when they should be working and so on, but if you are interested, there's some good stuff out there.

Start with a basic book and see where it takes you.

Thanks for that TAL.  I am really interested in following through with this, it seems quite expensive though, so I think I am going to do some more reading on the subject and see what I can learn before subscribing to any course.

That book I mentioned, Inside the Nudge Unit, is pretty decent.  I'm only about 40 or so pages in.

Neurolinguistic programming right? I remember reading about it in a section of stock market wizards. It's always seemed interesting but I've not read too much more into it. I remember thinking it was a little unbelievable but it does seem to make some sense. Have you looked more into it Mr.Broker?

Telling someone to forget about all the fans is a lot less effective than saying, go out and enjoy yourself. It's about using language to phrase things in a manner which help lead people down a certain path.

A little, I just read inside the nudge unit which is about the behavioural insights team within Government.

I have been waiting on a set of DVD's coming from a mate.  Covering the basics, I have been trying some subtle framing in my day job and despite only understanding the basics I believe I am having a little success with it, but I probably need to add in a little analysis to find out for certain.
