Question for phone geeks

My current phone has gone away for repair (long story) so I will be temporarily using my old (2012) Galaxy .

AFAIK this phone is no longer supported by Samsung, so my question is, does using it pose a heightened security risk?

Wouldn't worry about it Red, especially if only for a couple of weeks.  I expect the Android on it is up-to-date so all will be fine.  There'll be plenty of other people out there using the without any worries.

Why would the android on it be up to date though? There hasn't been any software updates available for it for about 18 months.

I thought they updated with security fixes?  Is that not the case?  Perhaps they didn't need to update the Android version.

The apps have been updated though I guess?

Yes the apps have been updated, I don't know how they would update the android system without me installing a firmware.

Obviously that may not be the case, but that is the extent of my knowledge.
